Re: Favorite Vikings' Moment?
Favre to Greg Lewis vs the 9ers in 09'. Felt nice to be on the good side of a miracle.

Re: Favorite Vikings' Moment?
I am going to be brutally honest, and maybe I am beating a dead horse here, but it saddens me greatly that the favorite Vikings moment for many fans involves Brett Favre. I know he is a great QB, and the Vikings had a nice season with him here, but I just cannot get the rotten taste out of my mouth when I think of a guy who was the face of the Green Bay Packers being painted as some kind of hero as a Viking. Even now, the signing of Favre just reeks of desperation. I guess I am old school, or horribly biased, or just a grump. No good Vikings memory involves Brett Favre, unless that memory involves him as a Packer being picked off or sacked.

If I had to pick a single favorite moment, it was a personal moment watching the Vikings play the Rams in the late 70s. The field was a mud pit and both teams were so covered with goop you could not tell which player was on which team. THAT was football and burned itself on my memory.

Re: Favorite Vikings' Moment?
No worries, Brian, many here feel that way. Some fans are young enough that the Favre 2009 season may be their earliest memory. I look at it this way. The Wilfs built the problem when they disregarded NFL advice in 2005 after Love Boat on hiring an experienced GM first and decided they had to have BCA, best coach available. Then they picked BC and "kept him off the plane to Green Bay" or so they say. But their lack of NFL management skills (remember Fran Foley) led to a HC with keys to the kingdom, way too soon (see Sherman, Mike, GB). The HC had no desire to build a QB for the future once his pet project (TJ) failed so he reached out to his OC and said, "Hey Darrell, can you call Brett?" End of story is an NFC title game appearance, fun for the masses but bad for the future with complete self-destruction in 2010, a year they ALL thought they were going to the Super Bowl. I don't share your strong dislike of Brett Favre, but I do think his signing was bad for the franchise.BGM wrote:I am going to be brutally honest, and maybe I am beating a dead horse here, but it saddens me greatly that the favorite Vikings moment for many fans involves Brett Favre. The Vikings played the Rams a lot in the late 70s in the playoffs, winning almost every time, until the year the Rams lost to the Steelers in the Super Bowl. Those were fun games and some of my earliest memories as a fan. Living in LA now, I wish the Rams would come back from St. Louis.BGM wrote:If I had to pick a single favorite moment, it was a personal moment watching the Vikings play the Rams in the late 70s. This isn't my all-time favorite, but it certainly gets a mention in my book.

Thanks. Sorry for my rant, but you are right... many of the younger fans see that as a very good season (it was), and they are entitled to their fond memories.CalVike wrote: No worries, Brian, many here feel that way. And truly, I don't 'hate" Brett Favre. He is one of the greatest QBs to play the game, and I did enjoy watching him, even as a Packer. But when a player is the face of the rival franchise for so long, I can't lay aside my old prejudices. I can when it matters in real life, but in football, that is my single major vice.

Re: Favorite Vikings' Moment?
I couldn't find it on youtube, but one of my favorite Vikings plays was in the 1976 playoffs against the Rams. The Vikings made a goalline stand, Tom Dempsey came in to kick a give-me 17-yard FG. Nate Allen Came around end to block the kick and the ball bounced right into Bobby Bryant's hands and Bryant raced 90 yards for a TD.
I was one happy kid,
That, and about 20 of Peterson's 50-yard+ TD runs.

Re: Favorite Vikings' Moment?
For me, it has to be the 49ers game in week of the 2009. I mean, the play happened literally right in front of me in the Metrodome. I will never forget it as long as I live.
A few other moments I enjoy:
- The Moss lateral in 2003. (Video has already been linked in the thread).
- Adrian Peterson's first NFL Touchdown (Saw that in the Metrodome as well).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6Co41nDx3k (Video of the pass)
- Peterson's 296 yard rushing performance (Saw that in the Metrodome as well).
(Video already linked in the thread).
- Berrian's 99 yard touchdown pass
(Video already linked in the thread).
- Adrian Peterson's epic run versus Cleveland in week one of the 2009 season.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxlRLOIfUlU (Video of the run)
- The 2005 NFC Wild Card game versus Green Bay.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmpMxpXfyTs (Was not sure if the video was in the thread already).
- Carter's 1,000 reception against Detroit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPvt680K9l4 (Pretty bad video. Best I could find).

I was at this game and the final TD game on the last play of the game. Was insane!

Re: Favorite Vikings' Moment?
My favorite vikings moment was my first Packers-Vikings rival game in the dome. It was a tie game and Longwell hit the field goal to beat them with time expiring it was the craziest feeling in the dome and I will always remember that!
Otherwise the 09' 49ers game has to be one of the craziest miracles ive ever seen. That was our year and its hard to talk about it );

Nice. Qadry "the rocket" Ismail! I'd totally forgotten about that guy. Some other names (Amp Lee) ring a bell too.NextQuestion wrote:Moss vs the Cowboys in 98 and 00 Thanksgiving games.

We certainly have a history of acquiring fast WRs that don't become huge producers. I hope we get it right this time, assuming we draft a WR high.

(That was a good play though)
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!
Re: Favorite Vikings' Moment?
We are talking a play, and not a game. So hands down it was the Favre Lewis play. I was lucky enough to be there with my wife, and it turned her into a big fan. The atmosphere was crazy after that one play. It was also voted the top sports play of 09.
As for personal moments, I grew up in Mankato before we moved to Chicago. Back in the 70s very few people went to training camp, so there was no cost to do so. It was a cheap way for my dad to entertain me. At the end of practice we would hang out at the gate where the players would walk out to cross the streets and head to the dorms. We would just stand there and I would give "fives" to the likes of Page, Tarkenton, Yary, Blair, Krause, Foreman, Eller and my alltime favorite Marshall. Those were great moments that I was lucky enough to share with my dad.
