Re: Vikings Off-Season Decisions
Maybe keep all three but move Johnson to a utility position where he could replace guard or tackle and find a new starter at his position.Mothman wrote: Probably Johnson, Fusco or Loadholt, in that order.

Re: Vikings Off-Season Decisions
yes, exactly in that order. Let the rest be backups if they are cheap enough. As hard as I am on Ponder, he has the least amount of time in the pocket of any QB ive seen play. Put Greeen, Megatron, and PH out there and he still wont have the time to get them the ball. The deep ball takes a few seconds to develope, ponder doesnt have that.Mothman wrote: Probably Johnson, Fusco or Loadholt, in that order.

I hate to say it, cause Load makes some bonehead plays, but I think our Tackles are ok for now, if Load doesnt want too much to resign. Tackles are just so hard to come by. This years draft is full of good guards though. Oh, and instead of going after Kareem right away (i think he will be around still at 24) lets wait till Hunter. they are similar, both with injury problems, but Hunter will be around alot later. And hes bigger and just as fast.

Re: Vikings Off-Season Decisions
I have to disagree there. Actually his mobility saved his ars many times and he dumped the ball off several times saving sacks.Boon wrote: Pass protection was adequate this year. Give him some weapons
Just to clarify, he was sacked 32 times, 13th in the nfl, and i'd say about 10 or so of those, seeing every game as usual, were caused by him running out of the pocket INTO a sack for no apparent reason. Later on in the season he seemed to calm down a bit
A true pocket passer would have been sacked at least twice as many times playing with the pass protection he had. The kid can run no doubt.

A true pocket passer would have went past his first read, not missed wide open receivers, and not happy feet even when there was only phantom pressure.A true pocket passer would have been sacked at least twice as many times playing with the pass protection he had.
We could use better guards, but it is not like they were getting beat like a drum play in and play out.

As far as the draft goes the Vikings 2013 draft picks by round: First - 1; Second - 1; Third - 1; Fourth - 2; Fifth - 1; Sixth - 0; Seventh - 2. Total of eight.

Greatest needs
Wr>db>backup or starting QB that is actually game day ready>guard>one more corner
Solidify these positions and we should be top of the division.

Re: Vikings Off-Season Decisions
I thought Fusco was the weak link by a country mile this year. Johnson's blocking was spotty, but more consistent than Fusco's. If Fusco didn't get leverage, he seemed to get manhandled. He just struck me as weak for the position. Maybe he can get stronger and more stout at the point of attack, but guard is not a place you can afford to be weak and need perfect technique every time if you want to hold your own.Mothman wrote: Probably Johnson, Fusco or Loadholt, in that order.
That's just my perception of things watching throughout the season. Maybe it's incorrect, but when Fusco got blown up, he REALLY got blown up.
Loadholt had a good year overall. He was consistent, solid in the run and pass games, and is a cog the Vikes need to get extended. He had a few off plays, but for his body of work over the entire season the guy deserves a A IMHO.
I'd love to see the Vikes replace both guards quite honestly. Johnson is a stop-gap, but probably the only truly viable option next year at LG. But I hope the Vikes can find a better option at RG, either in the draft or FA.
Re: Vikings Off-Season Decisions
The best thing for the OL is to give them more time with each other. The more time they have with each other and learn more about Christian Ponder's pocket movement, the better off they will be.

Loadholt is one of the best linemen on the team and is the must sign FA on the team. Letting him go would be a mistake and a golden gift to the team he goes to.chicagopurple wrote:Loadholt is a drive-killing Penalty Machine......He needs to be replaced...he has had enough time to show his worth and I don't see it. How Many motion penalties did he have this year? I lost count after the first 1000.......
We Need REAL receivers...then Ponder has one year to show that he can really play QB with the crutch of having the worlds best RB.....EVER.......
I don't worry too much about our Defense.....The Offense is the reason we arent playing any more ball this season.

I Think our biggest needs are WR,DT,MLB,G,DB
We need a threat and Keenan Allen should be a good fit if he drops to us,
at Dt, K-Will is getting old and no one around him should be starting.
Jasper Brinkley is okay but he shouldnt be a starting MLB
Fusco and Johnson are alright but we could really use a better pass blocking right guard to make up for Loadholt being more of a road grating tackle.
I think Corner we are okay at. We have winfield for another year and Cook is there if he is healthy, along with A.J and Josh Robinson who showed some potential.

Kalil is far better and Sullivan is pretty damn good too.
