The starting QB thinks that there's a good chance Harvin may not be back. When will you people realize that we're long past the point of dealing with only rumors?

Florio's got nothing. He's analyzing the tense Ponder used? Give me a break. First of all, Ponder mixed tenses his first comment ("he busts his butt all the time when he was here" so that should indicate just how reliable this sort of "analysis" is...

More importantly, Ponder is probably using the past tense because he's talking about the past, referring to Harvin's attitude and performance earlier this season.

This is getting ridiculous. It's obvious that the only people who have a clue regarding Harvin's future are Harvin, Spielman and whatever insiders in both camps will be involved in deciding whether he'll play for the Vikings or not. Until they either come to an agreement or make a trade, we might as well consult psychics and read tea leaves to try to figure out what's going on. It would be as reliable as what the rumor-mongering, pot-stirring press has to offered up so far.

Let's just see how this plays out instead of jumping at shadows.

You might be right that it's rumor-mongering,but you have to agree Ponder(who has master degree) should be smart enough to not use past tense to answer such question imo.

Because that's what Ponder said.

Considering Percy was put on IR and hasn't been playing or around for the last few weeks it's not weird that he used the past tense. He'd probably do the same with Childs.

He should be smart enough not to throw interceptions (the kind he has thrown in the red zone this year). How's that logic worked out? :P

I disagree with the Mothman on this one (in that the tense usage may be significant). Having said that, does the past tense refer to Ponder's belief that Harvin will no longer be with the team? Or perhaps it means (past tense) when Harvin was actively playing with the Vikings (as he has been on IR since early December and the season is now over.) As in: He was a good team mate [this year]

I don't know. I actually suspect Ponder believes Percy won't be back, but even that does not mean he has an accurate picture of the situation.
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!

Clearly that means Harvin is gone. You're right. So much certainty.

I'm not saying Harvin is "gone". Forget the past tense argument - I'm not making it. I'm saying his future looks very uncertain, as in the subject of this thread. And that it looks more and more uncertain every day, especially when the starting QB on the team says that he doesn't know if a player under contract will be back next year. Why would he even say that unless he knows something? Obviously, something has transpired that is not just a rumor. Call it a rift; maybe it's just one side, or maybe both have decided to move on. But something very real is wrong in their relationship.

LOL! Really? Is that what he means by "I’m not sure, I don’t know"?

Perhaps when we're dealing with something other than rumors?

Frankly, at this point I'd be surprised if Harvin even knows if he's coming back. I don't know why anyone would expect Ponder to know unless Harvin has declared to his teammates that he won't be back.

The Vikings are probably trying to decide what kind of contract to offer Harvin and until he sees that offer and they engage in some actual discussion about what he wants and what they're willing to give him, even Harvin may not know if he wants to come back.

I'm not blind to the possibility that Harvin may not return but there is just nothing substantial to back up any of these rumors.

Well so much for that, cya Percy. I mean Florio's never been wrong before so we should take this as dogma.

Not necessarily, unless you consider Harvin's professed desire for a new contract prior to next season to be something wrong in their relationship. In that case, I suspect that's all that's really going on here. Harvin wants a new deal. Ponder undoubtedly knows that and that alone would be enough to explain the uncertainty in his comments.

I'm betting the bottom line is if the Vikings can offer Harvin a deal that makes him happy, he'll be back with the team and just fine. There may be some posturing along the way but I doubt there's anything wrong with the relationship between Harvin and the Vikings that a lucrative new deal won't solve which means the real question is probably how much the Vikings are willing to pay to keep Harvin around.

Here is my take. Which is just as on the money as any talking heads. I think Harvin wants to be on a winning team. I think he want to be a big part of the offense, and I think he wants to be paid well for it. Either way, he was a big part of this offense this past year. The question is, does he think the Vikings are the team to be on to win in the future? Randy Moss has been chasing the Ring since he came into the league, an at this point I am sure he would rather have a ring than the money. So what is Percy's motivation? Purely money? A winning team? His contribution to the team? A ring? These are the questions we do not have the answers to. Without those answers, we know nothing. For Percy, I think it's combination of all of the above. Most players I believe would give up some money if they thought they had a better chance at winning a ring. We shall see.

If the Vikings cant work things out with PH, they are in alot worse shape then I thought. Next thing we know Spielman/Fraizer will be trading him for Brady Quinn....and giving the Chiefs a 3rd rounder.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. This after his last interview when he said "Now that Percy's gone...uh *uncomfortable laugh* on IR". Or whatever it was. It's clear Ponder is aware what is going on and it just having a hard time knowing what the team has decided but being unable to actually say it. And is slipping up.

Bet that sand is nice and warm though. They better be careful or they might suffocate down there.
