Why did the team ask Harvin to rehab in Florida? They didn't even want him on the sideline during these last games of the season?

Unknown.

It's also unknown whether the team asked him to rehab in Florida if he was given the choice to go home and opted to take it. It was reported on December 15th that he had minor surgery so perhaps his surgeon is down in Florida?

It's also possible that all the dreaded rumors about a big rift are true and this is an indication that Harvin will be traded.

Basically, there's no official answer to your question.

All true, except surgery was an appendectomy unrelated to injury.

Why would Harvin leave if we are a playoff team?

Just let Harvin vape this Northern Lights through an ash catcher bong and have him against the Packers next week, right?

I didn't say that nor did I approve that message.

Thanks for the info!

That might go a little further toward explaining why he's at home in Florida and not with the team.

Frazier on Harvin not being around team: 'It's purely up to him'
Remember Percy Harvin? Pretty good player? Pippen to Adrian's Jordan? Once led the league with 62 catches? Was considered an early league MVP front-runner until he suffered a torn ligament in his left ankle at Seattle on Nov. 4?

Well, his name came up today because Harvin hasn't been at Winter Park since being placed on injured reserve on Dec. 5. (And, btw, the Vikings might want to consider forwarding his mail because it's piling up in his locker).

The Vikings have gone 5-2 without Harvin on the field or, for that matter, anywhere near the team. Coach Leslie Frazier was asked today about Harvin's situation. Here's the exchange with reporters:

Q: Is it by design that Percy is not around or would you prefer that he's here?

A: "It's purely up to him. If he wanted to be around, he could be around. But the guys are working hard doing everything they can. I know he wants our team to do well and that's important. But we got some other guys who are on IR as well, so it doesn't concern us."

Q: Have you talked to him?

A: "Not lately."

Q: Is he in Florida?

A: "Yes."

Q: Is it odd that a player as high profile as Percy not being here?

A: "No. I know he's supportive of his teammates. As any of the guys who are on IR that don't travel with us or don't participate in what we're doing, it's nothing that upsets their teammates or gets them concerned. These guys are so focused on Green Bay and getting ready for that game. That's what's most important."

Q: Is it routine for a guy on IR when he's not going to come back to rehab on his own?

A: "Not on his own. We monitor his rehab."

Q: So [head athletic trainer Eric] Sugarman is in contact with Percy?

A: "Yes."

Q: What is the status with his ankle? Will he need surgery?

A: "I haven't been told he's going to have to have surgery."

this harvin situation is starting to smell worse and worse. although it again doesn't appear to be anything major this time, there's just something in the air with this guy. the little things begin to paint a picture.

That kinda seems like a mistake.
He didn't say Harvin is choosing not to be with the team, though. He said, "It's purely up to him. If he wanted to be around, he could be around. But the guys are working hard doing everything they can. I know he wants our team to do well and that's important. But we got some other guys who are on IR as well, so it doesn't concern us."

I took (emphasized text) that he wanted everyone to know Harvin was welcome on the sideline. He also said that Harvin wants the team to do well. Doesn't seem like there is "bad blood" (at least in the statement). Nor do I think it was a 'mistake.'

Why would he say that? That would just be an outright lie. The player has a choice whether he wants to rehab with the team's staff or somewhere else, the only requirement is that he keeps in contact and updated with the Vikings staff if he chooses to look elsewhere. Harvin and his family live in Florida, I do not understand the notion that because he chooses to rehab there that it means he wants out of the organization. It is not uncommon for players who have been placed on IR to rehab on there own, and to decide not to travel with the team. Have you seen Demarcus love on the sidelines?

Frankly I think a few things in his past, namely the outburst in the off season, has the media jumping at any opportunity to blow up a story about harvin because they know it will garner attention. So they blow the arguments he's had out of proportion (keep in mind player-coach arguments are common between even the best character players), then connect those arguments to the surprising IR placement and his absence from the team, and you've created the compelling story of a possible full fledged mutiny.

Just like desean Jackson would never return to phi, lance Briggs and Matt forte with chi, etc etc. Of course once those players got signed, those reports all of a sudden stopped.

Personally, if I had a busted up ankle and wasn't required to be in the Mid-West winter climate away from my family, there is really no way I would be there.

Much ado for now IMO.
