So one of the GOAT QB is just gonna fall in our laps? Because none of the realistic options this year are much better then Ponder. Might as well hope for a miracle then get a product we know what we'll be getting.PurpleKoolaid wrote: Yeah Denver is hatin life right now.
Who should our starting QB be for 2013?

Right now we have a great young core, I think our QB situation can wait another year and we can pick a better prospect if Ponder doesn't pan out. Is patience too much to ask for? They are great right now, but what I CLEARLY STATED was that after manning is gone, they will most likely start doing horrific. You need to read better bro.PurpleKoolaid wrote: Yeah Denver is hatin life right now.

They're likely to get someone else in the mean time.Dark wrote: They are great right now, but what I CLEARLY STATED was that after manning is gone, they will most likely start doing horrific. You need to read better bro.
Instead of signing Favre and not drafting anyone until two years later despite only having TJoke on the roster besides. A 5th, 6th, and 7th round QB between the time we drafted TJoke, and then Ponder.

I am not sure that Frazier will lose his job, sitting at 7-6...maybe? Not sure about thatjoe h wrote:Ugly QB class. But we are at a point where I don't even think Frazier will be back. I think a new coach comes in, a few veterans get traded, and 2016 is when we finally make our run for the super bowl.

I guess I'm not ready to give up on Ponder, especially in light of the QB draft class available to replace Ponder...

Vick and Palmer, are both 32. Id take Romo tho, Alex Smith isn't good, the 49ers have a better defense than the Vikings.Dark wrote: I think we need to stay away from veterans. With Favre, we had 1 great year but then we went back to sucking the next year. I know I've said this a lot but we need to look long term. At least Smith, Vick, and Romo are younger guys than palmer. I'm telling you guys, if we keep picking up young guys we can have a Super Bowl in the next ten years.
What I really want them to do, is draft Barkley. His stock has fallen, because, the team has had a
bad season.
Ponder is brutal, bad footwork, throws off his back foot. I really hate seeing some, make comparisons, to other young QBs that struggled, who turned out great. Many of those, gambled, and made mistakes. Ponder never gambles, and makes aweful mistakes, and has no upside, weak
arm, can't be coached.
I can't believe 15 people, have seen anything in Ponder, to say he should be the guy next year. How many duplicate names, does Rick Speilman have in here!?!

Re: Who should our starting QB be for 2013?
Frasier has more wins this year than his first 2 seasons (abbreviated 2010) combined. I highly doubt he'll get canned with that kind of trajectory. Also, I'm not of the opinion that the losses this year have been a big result of any issues stemming from Frasier. For the most part the team shows up prepared week in and week out. They've made mistakes, but overall guys have improved.GoldenBear91 wrote: I am not sure that Frazier will lose his job, sitting at 7-6...maybe? Not sure about that![]()

I think we are really being held back by the issues at QB and WR. (no shocking revelation there) All other phases of the game are functioning pretty well. What concerns me, coaching wise, were the comments Ponder made about not being worked with on his mechanics by the coaches. Not sure what to make of that, but if true then there is a coaching problem.

I don't love Ponder at QB, but he has shown improvement, going from 54.3 to 62.6 CMP%. Harvin is out for a few games, and the receivers we have are average besides Harvin.

I'd love to know exactly what Ponder said because I find it very hard to believe they aren't working with him on his mechanics, especially since Frazier just said Ponder's mechanics are an issue and that they work with him on those fundmentals:mansquatch wrote:Frasier has more wins this year than his first 2 seasons (abbreviated 2010) combined. JimQ: Are Christian’s struggles on throwing the deep pass due to mechanical problems? If so, how much of that can you work on during the season with him?
A: There are still some things that he does get a little off-kilter with his mechanics. We’ll keep working with him on his mechanics. That’s a major part of a quarterback’s success, whether it be moving around in the pocket, to the left, or stepping up or moving to the left or the right. All of those things are part of his being successful and we’re always working on his technique. We’re always working on his fundamentals at the position and we’ll continue to do that and we’ve seen some improvement, but we’ll continue to work to see more improvement, but he has to be comfortable in the pocket, he has to be sure of himself and he has to make certain throws in order for us to be successful.
Re: Who should our starting QB be for 2013?
The only reason his completion percentage is decent is because he throws like #### past ten yards. If he threw the amount of passes past ten yards that other QB's in the league did, his completion percentage would be about 45%GoldenBear91 wrote:I don't love Ponder at QB, but he has shown improvement, going from 54.3 to 62.6 CMP%. He can have a 60 completion %, short dumpoffs. Problem is, 1940 Sid Luckman /Chicago Bears offense, is not what wins in todays NFL.GoldenBear91 wrote:I don't love Ponder at QB, but he has shown improvement, going from 54.3 to 62.6 CMP%. Re: Who should our starting QB be for 2013?
At the end of the season there are going to be several teams that could possibly be looking for a QB; Arizona, Kansas City, Oakland, Jacksonville, Buffalo and possibly the Vikings. I believe Alex Smith's most likely landing spot would be Buffalo, maybe Jacksonville. Alex Smith doesn't have a humongous Salary, I think he would beat out Fitzpatrick and he would never have to look back. Arizona was burned from the Kevin Kolb trade, the same can be said with the Chiefs and even Oakland to a certain extent. I don't think Smith is going to want to go to a situation where they are still considered to be "developing" a young QB. So I think the Cards, Chiefs, Raiders, Jags and Vikings will be drafting QB's. The Top QB's for this year's draft are going to be Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson, EJ Manuel, Tyler Bray and maybe Aaron Murray; with Barkley and Smith probably going in the first round to the Cards and Chiefs. I think the Vikings can pick up one of those other QB's in the 3rd round to provide some young competition with Ponder and can take over for Ponder in the middle of the season if he continues to struggle.
Re: Who should our starting QB be for 2013?
I don't think this will surprise anyone but:
A high-ranking Vikings source tells NFL Network's Ian Rapoport he still believes Christian Ponder is the "quarterback of the future" in Minnesota.
The Vikings realize they're doing Ponder no favors by calling the games with the understanding that Adrian Peterson is the offense. While it's obviously the best recipe for a wild card berth, it's not helping Ponder's development by limiting him to passes within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. Ponder has certainly regressed since a promising start to the season, but not to the point where GM Rick Spielman is willing to throw in the towel on the 12th overall pick in the 2011 draft. The Vikings would be wise to bring in a reliable veteran to push Ponder and function as a capable backup.
