Vick on the Vikings?

Post by yezzir »

Yep. I had to bring it up. Good O-line, best RB in the league, maybe the best slot receiver, and a questionable Ponder.

Makes a dude think...

With that said, I'd rather have Alex Smith.

It sucks to think that if we have to draft another qb and develop them.....Percy, AD, and Allen will either be too old or traded by the time a drafted QB could compete with the other QBs in the NFC north.

No. Please no. Weve already had a QB from philly that turned out to be a disaster. Ive personally always hated Vick and I would also rather have Alex Smith.

Vick, Smith, if it's that, or one of the clowns on the roster now. Give me either of them in a second. Vick can still make plays, and a creative offensive coordinator could really make use of him and Percy. (Or we'll go get another "west coast" idiot to plug in so we can keep the offense we've had the last half dozen or so years). Smith might not be quite the play maker, and played on a better team, but he'd at least give us a chance.

Get a veteran in here, draft someone in any round if there's someone there (with this front office, who knows what'd they identify...). And at least make it a product worth watching for a while.

(I'll take a NFCCG with Favre over drafting Tjoke and Ponder and not having that season or two in between. Could have traded for Cutler, or signed Manning as well before!)

There are only two things that would make me stop cheering for the Vikings...

One, if they move.

Two, if they sign a person who knowingly killed and tortured dogs for sport. He may have paid his debt to society, but there is no way someone who has exhibited that level of cruelty deserves a SECOND opportunity to be an NFL QB. As if I did not hate the Eagles already, once they signed him, it was all over for me.

Micheal Vick has a noodle arm? He's got the opposite of a noodle arm.

Yeah, they never had a chance to because our idiot GM thought it was a good idea going forward with Ponder and Webb.
The Vikings will not enter the Peyton Manning sweepstakes, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation, opting to move forward with Christian Ponder and backup Joe Webb.
I'm a Vikings fan, not a Ponder fan. QBs come and go. The horns are what matters. Ponder is hurting this team. And the longer he's the starting QB the longer this team is irrelevant. If you're happy cheering for every bum just because they're on the team, have fun with that. I'll continue to argue for what improves this team.

Ponder is done. If not this offseason, the next, and then only for Spielman to try and save face, hopefully he goes with him.

Book it, Danno.

No, they never had a chance because Manning basically handpicked the team that he wanted to sign with and it wasn't the Vikings. Manning even made it clear that he didn't choose SF because he preferred to remain in the AFC. The Vikings had no chance to sign Peyton Manning and it had nothing to do with Spielman.

Peyton Manning's camp is aiming to make a decision within the next week on where he will play next season, according to sources, who add that while Manning prefers to stay in the AFC, he is open to playing in the NFC.

Vick is a coach killer. He will ruin your coaching career, so if you would like Frazier out, bring Vick in.

Oh is that so? Hmmm. Well let me ask you something: Who are YOU to judge HIM? What puts you in the high-and-mighty position to say whether or not he should get a second chance? How can you justifiably make such a judgment? Why can't he repent? Why can't he find forgiveness? Why can't he be truly sorry for his actions and change as a human being? Because people DO change. And people who change for the better DO deserve second chances.

After his release, it did not take long before I was, once again, a Vick fan. I always was before the incident, and the moment I believed him to be truly sorry (I still do), I became a fan once again. I HATE Philadelphia, yet I found myself rooting hard for them simply because of Mike Vick. He is an absolute athletic phenomenon (or was), and I love watching him play. I'd love to see him in purple.

Based simply on this post I can see this is something you and I fundamentally disagree on, so I will not pursue it too far. However, this is something that I feel very strongly about, so I wasn't about to let this unfair, and, in my opinion, totally ridiculous comment go without a response. We are all Vikings fans here, so don't get the wrong idea. I'm not taking a shot at you; rather I'm just stating my disagreement. As I said, I couldn't NOT respond to this.

Even if you ignore Vick's criminal past, he's not what the Vikings need. He's an overrated, injury-prone mediocre QB on the wrong side of 30 and not someone the Vikes should consider signing to be their starter. It's a bad idea.

As for Manning, the odds that he would choose to go to a 3 win NFC team over any other possibility available to him were slim and none.

To be fair, a fair number of your QB greats are past 30, P. Manning, Tom Brady and good quarterbacks are just hard to find, from what I know, Vick would be about QB #3 from the Eagles in the past 20 years, Randall C. was a charm, great role model, great person, we know McNabb coming was a disaster.

But I think "injury prone" is the key here, Vick gets hurt to easy and not only that, when healthy, I think he is quality but even when playing he was hurt.

It's clear, P. Manning was able to get that $90 million contract because he's so good, great QBs win Championships almost without exception, maybe a few don't fit that description.

Teams without top-flight quarterbacks are numerous. In fact, it's probably easier to count the handful or so with quality quarterbacks.

But the bottom line is Vick seems to have health problems overall, you take away his checkered past, this year has been a blowout for him. In fact, he probably hasn't played that well in about 2 years. I'd have to look at it.[/quote]

My point wasn't that a 30+year old QB can't be great but that this particular 30+year old QB isn't great, and at his age, with his injury issues and his overall skill set, he'd be a poor fit for the rebuilding Vikings, a band aid at best.
