How Many More Years Will Marshall and Carter Get Snubbed?
I think Jim Marshall should have went in AGES ago but I can see how people would argue for more "worthy" people.
Cris Carter, there is no argument. The guy has to my minds the Greatest of All Time hands and is a top 5 player statistically in everything about his position. You know, in a decade when secondaries were allowed to play defense? Terrell Owens and Randy Moss have slightly better stats but Carter was the highlight reel, Circus Catch Cris and has one of the best tag lines for a player ever: "All he does is catch touchdowns."
Eligible since 2008. Don't you think 4 years is long enough penance for never winning the Super Bowl? I'd like to see the HOF voters try to win the Super Bowl with Spurgeon Wynn.
Receptions 1,101
Receiving yards 13,899
Touchdowns 130
Back to back 120+ reception seasons (1994 and 1995)
Most consecutive games with 3 or more receptions at 58. He's the Joe DiMaggio of receivers for chrissake!
First player to go over 150 receiving in 3 decades (Jerry Rice being the only other)
Tied for most seasons with 5+ touchdowns at 11 straight
How do you EFFING ARGUE THIS?! He snorted coke in '92? The last 4 U.S. presidents snorted coke in '92! Everybody was snorting coke in '92! My dog was snorting coke in '92! Your dog sold it to my dog!

I didn't snort any coke 92 or ever and still think he should get in.

I don't even know what else can be said that hasn't already. I try to look at it as a non-viking fan and can't think of why he isn't in. I met up with a buddy and his friend in Vegas a couple months back that are die hard raider fans and they both agreed 100% he should be in.

First off, in '92 I was 12 and I definitely was not snorting coke. Hopefully, your dog got help for his drug problem. Seeing how I had a parakeet back then, I know your dog didn't get it from my parakeet

Second, seeing how long it took Art Monk to get in and he also had impressive numbers as well, it's not a surprise that he isn't in.
Like baseball, they need to take away HOF votes from small town writer that has a grudge because said candidate never gave them the time of day or feel he isn't a 'first ballot' HOF'er and 'needs to wait' to get in. It took Harry Carson forever to get in and they had to put him in when they had no other choice.
It's not like Marshall's and Carter's numbers have changed or will change any time soon. HOF voting is politics, plain and simple...

Re: How Many More Years Will Marshall and Carter Get Snubbed
NFL HOF process way too high on itself. Coaches and owners should never take spots from the players. Process should allow all positions including kickers and punters to get in. And yes Cris Carter, Jim Marshall, and Mick Tinglehoff should be enshrined.
Re: How Many More Years Will Marshall and Carter Get Snubbed
Carter did better than Monk in every category and had nearly double the TDs in his career (If he'd had 136 instead of 130, he'd have had exactly double) that Monk had. I watched both of them play. Not trying to insult Monk, but he doesn't compare to Cris Carter. It's not just the number of catches and yards, it's how he made them. No one (even Jerry Rice) had better hands than Cris Carter. I do not agree that it "is no surprise" he is not in, and I also believe it is a travesty he is not in. Re: How Many More Years Will Marshall and Carter Get Snubbed
As long as Ray Guy, Cris Carter and Jim Marshall remain on the outside looking in, the HoF means nothing to me.

Well said! I wholeheartedly agree with you, about both Carter's superiority to Monk as a WR and about it being a travesty that CC is not in the HoF yet. I thought he'd be an easy first ballot choice. I can't believe he's still not in.
I don't like Marshall's chances to ever get in. He deserves it for his "iron man" record alone (and there's much more to recommend him) but with both Page and Eller already in the HoF, I think Marshall's chances are diminished. I can just imagine HoF voters trotting out lines like "Well, we already have two players from that line and they never even won a Super Bowl..."

Re: How Many More Years Will Marshall and Carter Get Snubbed
I think Carter gets snubbed because of how he communicates, he seems to be able to tick people off with
little effort.
little effort.

I don't disagree with anything that you have said, but it's quite obvious that they will put him in when they have no other choice but too put him in like they did Harry Carter.Just Me wrote: Carter did better than Monk in every category and had nearly double the TDs in his career (If he'd had 136 instead of 130, he'd have had exactly double) that Monk had. I firmly believe that football HOF voter is the same as baseball HOF voter that have the holier than thou attitude about like their **** doesn't stink. I'm sure you have a laundry list of persons that aren't in the baseball hall. You can bet guys like McGwire and Sosa won't get in despite the fact they both single-handedly saved baseball after that strike in '94. Yeah, they took the juice, but nobody complained when they knocking them out of the park and putting butts in seats.
The OP mentioned the drug problem, but there has to be more than that with all the snow-blowers they have in the hall already...

I agree. I'm not excusing it, by any means, but if that is the litmus test, the HOF has screwed up many times before Cris Carter...Angels Wings wrote:

If coke is the issue, I have to wonder about Lawrence Taylor and Michael Irvin being in the HOF.
I think that a lot of people don't like Cris Carter because he is a loudmouth.
