One of Ponder's better throws of camp, a bullet to Michael Jenkins on third-and-7 in a backed up situation. Beat Cook's outside cover.
Stephen Burton making his debut in team drills with twos. Juggling catch on first ball thrown his way. #Vikings
Maybe he smells opportunity but Mickey Shuler has had a nice day here in every phase.
@RobBarrett04: @TomPelissero-you haven't said much about Loadholt or Sullivan's camp so far.” That's usually a good sign for OL.
Third string's backed up series ends with a nice interception by Brandon Burton, who is going with his tender right ankle taped. #Vikings

More Reggie Jones?
Reggie Jones keeps making plays. Great anticipation vs Kerry Taylor to make INT in stride off Rosenfels. Lot of confidence. #Vikings

Kerry Taylor continuing to get a surprising amount of first team chances. #Vikings
Manny Arceneaux, who has had a solid camp, just coughed one up to Bobby Felder. Needs to cut out those drops. #Vikings

Jared Allen doesn't like our new DC's plan: http://1500espn.com/sportswire/Zulgad_J ... less080112

Maybe it's just me, but I am not sure I like the idea of "platooning" the DL. There is something to be said for chemistry and consistency along the DL, just as there is on the OL. It is a different era, of course, but could you imagine the PPE being platooned? Maybe he is trying to find a scheme that works for the personnel, but any scheme that would limit the time that Jared Allen is on the field is one that I question.

EDIT: Ah! I see Jared has already voiced his concerns. LOL

"My thing is I work so hard in the offseason to get in the best shape that I can my theory always has been, 'You want to rest me, rest me during the week because I get paid to play on Sundays,'" he said. "That's when I'm out there to make plays. I feel like if I'm on the field, I can make a play to help our team win.
This is why I will always like Jared Allen. He plays the game the way I would hope I would if I were in his position.

Wouldn't that actually be an argument _for_ platooning? In recent years they've gone more and more to making substitutions on the defensive line, both situational and for giving players rests. I would think platooning would maintain the chemistry that you're talking about more so than making random substitutions.

I don't know how I feel about it either way. Funny thing, they NEVER make substitutions on the offensive line, either for rests or anything else beside injuries. Is playing offensive line that much less easier?

By chemistry, I mean the idea of knowing the guy next to you so well that you are able to adjust and adapt on the fly and operate cohesively. Of course, that might be possible with a platooning system, I suppose, but there are only 16 games, and I don't think you can overestimate keeping a good group together as much as possible.

Christian Ponder was 7-of-10 passing today. Lot of short passes on a day focused on blitz pickup, backed-up situations, screens. #Vikings
Ponder and Jerome Simpson provided one of the highlights of Wednesday's practice when the quarterback hit the wide receiver in stride during a 7-on-7 drill with a pass that appeared to cover about 45 yards in the air.
Joe Webb was 6-for-9 and Sage Rosenfels 3-for-8 with 3 interceptions -- two on him (Burton and Jones) and one on a drop (Felder). #Vikings

Asked how Ponder is better this season, Harvin didn't hesitate.

"Confidence. Just him having confidence in us, throwing the ball way before we get out of our breaks. Sometimes you may see the ball hit us in our faces because we weren't quite used to him throwing before we were getting out of our breaks.

"As a receiver, that's what you want. You want as soon as you come out of your break the ball is right on you. We couldn't get that rhythm last year, but I think we're heading that way this year."

Marcus Sherels is the starting punt returner going into the exhibition opener but the job is open, Mike Priefer says. #Vikings

Bill Musgrave says Joe Webb will get all his reps at quarterback through camp and any nuanced plays would go in durin the season. #Vikings

Mike Priefer revealed today he recommended to Rick Spielman the #Vikings move on from Ryan Longwell. I found that interesting because he'd offered support for Longwell after the season. Priefer said kickoff-wise and FG-wise he felt it was best for the future. #Vikings
Among the rookies, Priefer said Jarius Wright and Rhett Ellison have impressed. Disappointed Josh Robinson has been hurt. #Vikings
Priefer said he could tell Robinson's hamstring was bothering him during a punt-catching drill yesterday. Been out since Friday.
Priefer said he won't get greedy trying to pin teams inside the 20 on kickoffs now that they have Blair Walsh's strong leg.Priefer: "When we can get a touchback, I think I’m going to take a touchback. It makes me sleep a lot easier at night."

@TomPelissero: Depth chart movement: Stephen Burton back with two offense, Chris Carr at corner in place of Antoine Winfield with one defense. #Vikings
@TomPelissero: Winfield is on the sideline in uniform but Carr continues to take first team reps instead. Pitch count in effect? #Vikings

@TomPelissero: First play of team drills Ponder underthrows the corner for Harvin and Chris Cook gets an INT and then on the next snap Harvin blows the top off and beats Cook for a 50-yard gain.
@TomPelissero: Cook with a helluva pick against Wright in one on ones. Simpson also got crowd going with spinning catch, somersault landing. #Vikings
