local resident - It's kind of like saying being stabbed to death is better than being bludgeoned to death.

out of state person - But keeping the team is still a net benefit for the city versus loosing them. That money gets paid back via revenue from taxes paid via jobs that are created and from people who travel to the cities just not for football games but other events that are held year round in the dome. But of course Minneapolis has a history of loosing teams only to later want them back at a greatly increased cost. Afterall those who fail to learn from history are bound to repeat it. See Minneapolis Lakers and North Stars as perfect examples.

local resident - We can live without them. And the Vikings aren't going anywhere. Where would they go? Nowhere.

These people are uneducated, that's for sure. It is too bad that there are that many idiots in the world.

I wouldn't say uneducated. Just alot of people who could care less about the vikes. But of course don't care that people actually do go to the cities and spends lots of money just to watch them play. Do have to remember that there is a large arts crowd in the twin cities and yet they have no problem dumping large amounts of funds for things few people visit versus supporting a large group of people that brings lots to the city in both direct and indirect revenue.

After all, all those visiting spend money on gas, food, hotels, merchandise, etc and that filters down to alot of areas.

Not to mention other events that would get hosted at the stadium that would most likely include:

Conventions
Concerts
NCAA Final Fours
State Championships for various sports
Super Bowls (if has roof)
and much much more.

No biggie there. It would make sense to keep that in the family as it were, but hardly a deal-breaker.

For those watching this, is it just me, or does the Minnesota Senate seem like it's a much more divisive chamber than the House yesterday? The debate seems more personal and heated and the number of amendments offered and the length of time they are debated is crazy. These people are going to be stuck in that chamber until early next morning at the rate they're going.

Ask those same people about something they care about being allowed to leave/sold off/demolished and see what they say.

It is; you're exactly right. Seems like anybody with the title "senator" is by definitiion an arrogant blowhard.

There are 30 more amendments left (out of 70-some total); they will be there until dawn, at least. This may well be an attempt at an unofficial filibuster. There are only about 3 days' [72 hours] worth of time the the Legislature, by law, can continue to meet for floor action. (Even though they have until Sunday, May 20 on the calendar.) And there have been no challenges of any amendments as to germane-ness and relevance, which is unusual. The far left and far right stadium opponents might well have teamed up to deny a majority vote on any challenges. The more time they eat up with this, the less is left for the floor votes after the conference committee (presuming passage tonight/tomorrow). And pointless votes challening amendment relevance would only eat up even more time, so the rest aren't even trying.

And the bill almost died when the Mpls referendum was added back in, only to be subsequently removed two hours later.

If they're not doing whatever they can to kill the bill outright or run out the clock, then they're robbing Zygi of every dollar he has. To quote Senator Julie Rosen, the stadium bill's main sponsor: "The opponents are trying to hang the team upside down and trying to shake all the loose change out of their pockets."


I hope folks are watching this; it's government at its most despicable, under-handed, and thuggish. (And, ironically, most honest.) The idea that these monsters have power should scare the hell out of us all. At their core, they have no souls....behind the suits and ties and all the egomaniacal and pompous formality, they have the same animal bloodlust as a pack of wild hyenas in a feeding frenzy...

Man these people are wasting as much time as possible. Just hurry up and vote and get it over with. If it goes to conference committee then so be it. If it fails so be it. At least give it a chance and not waste time so that time runs out and oh well guess there is always next year.

As I said just above, this is a de facto filibuster....likely part of a deliberate strategy. This will go on all night. I wouldn't expect a vote until dawn tomorrow morning...
