Home sweet home for the Twins. The offense didn't do much, but Pavano pitched an excellent game. It reminds me a lot of their home wins last season when they would put together the innings at the ends of the games to pull out in front.

They called up Hughes, who supposedly had a much better camp than Tolbert but Tolbert got the job because Gardenhire wanted a veteran or something. Im hoping Hughes will do like Valencia did last season and shine.

Thats another problem I have with Guardy. Hughes clearly had a better preseason, yet Tolbert, (who, IMO, isnt very good) gets the call. Guardy had the same hard on for Punto. Now, Punto could play defense, but at the plate you would think he was swinging a pool que, blind-folded. It would be sweet if Hughes turned out like Valencia. Good game, and nice to see Pavano pitch well.

i agree with you. looking at the stats we're dead last in runs so far at 24!!! next closest team is something like 35. we knew coming into this season that our pitching would be our weak link but i must say i'm actually not disappointed with them so far. but our hitting has been atrocious.

it's like i texted my royals buddy this morning....i'm glad we get to play the royals this series because we need some gimmies to build confidence. 8)

and yes, i know the royals are much improved.

think the twins win tonight.

Im not sure its a "gimmie" game, b ut we did dominate them last season if I recall. But our bats need to wake up, maybe Punto put on a batting clinic for the Twins before he left????

Well so much for Liriano being an ace. Should have traded him this offseason. Although, other than him, I must say, the pitching looks ok. The bullpen has been stellar (except for the 9th inning today). I think havingCapps in there is a big help, and Nathan seems like he is close to being the same pitcher he was before the surgery.
I like the team, but the starting pitching is still a questionmark. I would like to see them trade for a true Ace, even if it is a rental (assuming they are in the hunt later in the season.)

Our pitching has been "ok", but with guys like we have, they wont be able to go anywhere in a playoff series, good teams will figure them out too quickly. IMO, we need at loeast 2 new, decent arms. The pitching has definately done its share more often than the Twins bats so far, but I think it is a fluke that will end soon. We'll need to win games 7-6 ot 6-5ish. We lost to the Yanks 2x when only giving up 4, to the A's once only giving up 1, and the A's game forsure and maybe at least 1 of the Yanks games they need to win. They need to score with this pitching rotation, period. I have a lot more confidence Twins bats will turn it around than the pitching staff will remain or be decent.

So explain to me something... Why bring Nathan in when Pavano was just rolling through the Rays lineup? How the hell does Gardenhire still have a job? What a #### retard. Why can't the stupid Pohlads see what most other people see? He is a worthless piece of pond scum who does not deserve a job. Once again, a game lost because of his management "strategies". Dumb #### has lost more games this way than he has won.

Exactly. And look, we lost, what a shocker. This was an offensive loss, not a pitching loss, IMO, yet all Guardy. So stupid. Nathan and Capps both give up more than Carl, but the "count" BS. #### retarded

+1

who would have thought at this point in the season we'd be dead last in the division at 4-8? and even if you DID see that happen....who would have thought it would have been our bats that lost most of our games and not our pitching.

pitching - B+
defense - B
offense - D-
coaching - F

What do you guys think of moving Mauer away from the catcher position? He can't stay healthy, and for $23 million a year, he better stay healthy. I don't know where we'd move him to, maybe SS? I just don't want his career to end prematurely because of recurring injuries.

I also actually like Butera behind the plate. His offense isn't great, but he really works well with the rest of the pitchers, and his arm is killer accurate on throwing out someone trying to steal.

OK, so it sounds like PAvano took himself out. I still am not a fan of sending Nathan out at that point. But whatever. The bullpen blew this game big time.
