I guess the economic climate in California is significantly better than in Minnesota.

They only asked for $114 million?? and they still only won by 60/40%. In a Metro Area that is as large as the entire state of Minnesota's population. This scares me.

Dome getting new playing surface

The Vikings have yet to get a new stadium, but their current venue will have a different playing surface when they open the home portion of their preseason schedule on Aug. 28 against Seattle.

After six seasons of playing on FieldTurf in the Metrodome (or Mall of America Field), the Vikings now will play their home games on Sportexe turf. Crews started ripping up the FieldTurf this week and the project will be complete by the time the Vikings come home after playing their first two exhibition games on the road.

Sportexe turf is the same surface on which the Baltimore Ravens play their home games at M&T Bank Stadium. Officially, the turf is called Shaw Sportexe Momentum 51 and is manufactured by Shaw Industries, a division of Berkshire Hathaway and the larget carpet and fabric manufacturer in the world. The company is located in Georgia.

The Ravens, Jets and 49ers also have this turf installed on their practice fields. It is a 51 oz. carpet infilled with 50 percent sand and 50 percent SBR rubber.

Shaw was selected by the Vikings and the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission from among five bids that were put in. FieldTurf actually filed suit against the MSFC because it was the low bidder but a judge denied the motion for a temporary restraining order.

The MSFC is paying $495,000 for this turf project. "The Vikings pushed hard for the turf," said Bill Lester, executive director of the MSFC.

Because the Twins no longer use the Metrodome, the Sportexe turf will be installed with no cut-outs for the sliding pits that had been used for baseball. This means players won't have to worry about avoiding possible seams around where first, second or third base had been located. The turf also will take up some of (not all) of what had been the baseball warning track.

So has anyone else heard anything more about this new Vikings Lottery Scratch off game that supposedly will has nothing to do with adding any funding to our Stadium Issue!? Am I the only one who thinks this is odd?

As of July 18,

"Starting Tuesday, lottery players in Minnesota will have an option to play a game featuring the Vikings. An announcement coming tomorrow will let everyone know that the Vikings are partnering with the Minnesota State Lottery to create the first-ever Vikings scratch-off game.

The Vikings’ lottery game will feature a maximum prize of $200,000, and will include other prizes, such as season ticket packages for four.

The proceeds from the lottery game will go to support the general fund and “critical environmental funding.” It will have NO connection to the Vikings’ quest for a new stadium."

I don't think that's a threat so much as a fact. If the Minnesota doesn't build a new stadium there's a good chance they won't have a team. That's not a threat ... that's kind of public knowledge, isn't it?

I am hoping they stay right where they are now...

but I was thinking if they move I was thinking Cedar Falls Iowa
is kinda booming economy wise right now. A lot of fans for the Vikings
are regional based that might be a good spot for them. Probably
way too small a support base but it was a thought.

Independence Party candidate Hahn proposes stadium

ndependence Party gubernatorial candidate Rob Hahn is proposing an expansion of state-backed gambling to build the Minnesota Vikings a new home.

Hahn is latching onto a hot-button issue as he contends with a better-funded opponent, public relations executive Tom Horner, in the Aug. 10 primary.

Hahn said today that his preferred option would be to expand TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota because it's the least expensive. He is also looking at a new stadium on the Metrodome site in downtown Minneapolis and a new retail-entertainment complex at a to-be-determined location that could include a casino.

He says the state could put up roughly $200 million from the state's share of new gambling dollars.

I like the guys dedication, but he wants to expand TCF. TCF doesn't have the luxury boxes or amenities an NFL venue needs to be profitable. (or a roof that so many fans want) Sounds like this gentleman is a bit under informed.

Dayton, Emmer and Horner agree that the state should help the NFL franchise.

Minnesota's three gubernatorial candidates disagreed on the budget and the state's role investing in statewide building projects Wednesday at a forum filled with construction and transportation leaders.

But the candidates agreed that the state should be a player in building the Minnesota Vikings a new stadium.

Eventually, yes, I think they'll move if they don't get a deal worked out for a new stadium in Minnesota. I have no idea how quickly it would happen after their Metrodome lease runs out but I think it would happen. That would be a dark, dark day for all of us Vikings fans.

God I hope not. The vikings are such a huge asset to Minneapolis as a business. They need the vikings more than they realize. We need to light a fire under their a$$es, quit playing politics, and get the d4mn stadium built.

Gosh, I hope that the Vikes stay where they are. I hope that new blood in the legislature and gov's office will shift attention to where it belongs: a new stadium, the prestige it brings, the jobs it will create, the enhancement to the Twin Cities, etc. Otherwise, Minneapolis-St. Paul will be a fun to visit as Fargo-Morehead. Face the facts: you have poured money into a baseball team that will never, never, NEVER make it to the World Series (unless the Yankees and Red Sox fold). The Gophers will always remain a second- or third-rate team.
