Detroit gets Jarrod Washburn
Chicago gets Jake Peavy.
Minnesota gets Orlando Cabrera.

Detroit and Chicago indisputably got better. Minnesota... ummm... :? the good news is it means less space for Buscher, Punto, and Casilla. Of the three, I think Casilla has far more of an upside. Punto is worthless.

Well, it is more than I thought Dumbass Billy Smith would do. Hopefully it means a few more wins for the Twinkies. And with any luck, Washburn and Peavy will suck the rest of the year!! :P

pf, only reason we got him was because he was old, and cheap. Unless he really picks it up it's not like he's going to make a noticeable difference. And he's virtually a lock to walk after this season. *yawn*

Let's put this into perspective:

Gardenhire pinch hit Brian Buscher, who is hitting .227, for Alexi Casilla, who is hitting .160 (or something like that). Isn''t your pinch hitter supposed to be someone who can get a hit? Then again, the bench is disgustingly pathetic.
On Startribune.com, everyone was just ridiculing the deal made today because it wasn't a good enough move for them. Well... think of what could have happened if Cabrera was in the lineup tonight. Maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't have to have a .227 hitter come off the bench to rescue a .160 hitter.

Of course, when you have Bobby Keppel, Jesse Crain, and some of the other losers in the bullpen, it doesn't really matter who you have on the bench. :burp:

Id agree with the theory that Cabrera wasnt much of a move. Is his bat better than a few of the current Twins....sure, but thats not saying much. The Twins needed a solid bat AND an pitcher to try keep pace with the Tigers. Head to head, they'll kill us. They can pitch and they dont have either Punto or Castilla trying to bat. The trade was an attempt to make it look like they were trying to improve the roster. Fact is he'll be gone next season and he came cheap.

I don't understand why everyone thinks Cabrera will be gone at the end of the year. If he does good, it won't surprise me to see them sign him and finally get rid of Punto or trade Casilla or Harris.

I believe Cabrera said in his final press conference in Oakland, that if things work out next off season he wouldnt be opposed to returning there........dont have a link, they said that during the Twins game yesterday, Id be shocked if he sticks around here. With no real shot past winning the mediocore AL Central, I wouldnt blame him, Mauer, Morneau, Nathan, or anyone else for wanting out of Minnesota. The Cabrera move was made to pacify the 3 stars and a weak attempt to make it look like the organization really wants to make the team better. We wont make the playoffs and thats saying something in the division we play in.Yuk. They look terrible against the Angles, absolutely terrible.

Blech, the series against the Angels was absolutely demoralizing. Twins gave up 30+ runs in three games, absolutely pitiful. There's no way this team can compete in the postseason.
What is it with Minnesota sports teams always being unbalanced? For years the Twins' pitching was their strength and their offense was horrible, now they can actually put up runs but their pitching is complete ####. Same with the Vikings, when the defense is solid the offense is lacking and vice versa.

This team needs to do some serious reflection in the offseason and make some moves, which is almost guaranteed not to happen because this is the Twins we're talking about. And I agree purple guy, it's just depressing that the Twins are in the worst division in the MLB and still can't move beyond being a .500 ball club.

No need to give up yet. The Angels are the hottest team in baseball right now and while these few games were demoralizing, the season is far from over...

The thing is, if you compare Detroit, Chicago, and the Twins, I think the Twins are better. We should be running away with the division. The next few months will tell a lot since they play all but 20 games against AL Central teams.

I think Twins fans and players alike have felt disappointed because they haven't reached their potential, but I think they still can...the pitchers need to just play better and you will see this team go about 13-15 games over .500 which would be enough to win the division for sure. It all depends on consistent pitching.

Lariano is terrible. I cant wait for the Vikings season to start so I dont have to rely on the Twins for entertainment.............just hope the Vikings dont perform like the Twins. I think its Gardys time to be gone, and hopefully the owners will put a little money into talent next year. They'll be opening a new stadium, tough to get fans into the stadium with a product like they are fielding this season.

I thnk Gardenhire is a good manager, if you consider the talent he has outside of the big three and Jason Kubel, it's pretty weak. Yet, he is hovering around .500, and he does have 4 division titles since he took over in 2002 (I think that's when it was). My biggest problem with him is how he handles his pitchers. If the guy is pitching great but he has 100 pitches, he comes out no matter what. I say let the guy keep pitching until he falters. Same with the relievers, but he leaves them in too lnog.
