I hope it doesn't happen unless they lift the ban on Shoeless Joe first. Whereas Pete Rose was caught red-handed and there was proof of his crimes (and I think a lifetime ban should mean just that), there was no proof against Shoeless Joe. Fair's fair.dead_poet wrote:Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is seriously considering lifting Pete Rose's lifetime ban from baseball, the New York Daily News reported Monday, citing no sources.

Plus, the thing that should be repeated loudly to everyone who argues for Pete Rose: HE AGREED TO THE BAN. He agreed to it, and now he thinks it is unfair that they won't lift it. I don't think he should be allowed in, not because of what he did, but because he lied about it for so long, and because he agreed to the punishment. He's lucky they don't take away all of his stats, quite frankly.

Re: Pete Rose to be reinstated?
THey should lift it for sure. He is the all time hits leader and one of the best players off all time. What did he do wrong? Oh yea he bet on his team to win and bet on other teams. So he had inside info by knowing what was really going on with other teams and stuff like that. Big deal. As long as he didnt throw anygames he shouldnt be banned from the game. How much money did he make mlb with his jerseys and all those hits. Put him in the hall of fame and document what he did as well. I mean it is the Hall of FAME. He is one of the most famous baseball players ever. PUT HIM IN.
Re: Pete Rose to be reinstated?
That is logical, but shoeless joe threw the worldseries didnt he. That seems more unforgivable then betting on ur team to win.DeeEss57 wrote: I hope it doesn't happen unless they lift the ban on Shoeless Joe first. No, his teammates did. Joe took some money to throw the series, but there is no evidence that he actually did anything to hurt his team.Samkon35 wrote:That is logical, but shoeless joe threw the worldseries didnt he. That seems more unforgivable then betting on ur team to win.
Pete Rose knew the rules and violated them. He's also a jagoff. I'm in favor of lifting the ban after he's dead.

Re: Pete Rose to be reinstated?
He agreed to the ban and now he wants it lifted. Sorry Charlie Hustle, that ain't how a ban works.
Speaking of jagoffs...Dictionary.com defines the word "ban" as...
"The act of prohibiting by law; interdiction"
You reverse the law in this one instance, and its total anarchy.
Would you want a full review of every prohibition by law for over 100 years? Talk about controversy.
Every steroids chugger/pinner etc in the Hall scott free, if not banned to begin with, merely suspended with some spooky language?
This wouldn't be a ban from the Hall, it would be a "ban", until the player argued his case well enough and became a sympathetic figure and public opinion becomes "Gee, X wasn't that bad, and all he did was Y! Come on, hasn't he been banned long enough?"
No, a ban is a ban.

Re: Pete Rose to be reinstated?
I dont think they should ban ANYONE from the hall. Its up to the guys who vote and if someone is a big enough jerk or did something horrible they probobly wouldnt let them in anyway. I say lift all bans, there are plenty of guys in the HOF that werent very good human beings in the first place.
