Post by jackal »

I am not a big fan of the games but i usually watch some. This years intrest seems to be
seems to very low to me. I am wondering if that is because of the China
aspect or other factors.

I was looking forward to the Olympics this year because it seems to be the only place where we won't hear about Brett Favre.

Looking for a great Olympic story to follow? Here is a great one in my opinion!!

Jake Deitchler youngest wrestler to make Olympic team in over 30 years!!
As a 12-year-old wrestler, Jake Deitchler was inspired by a 2002 moment of Olympic glory in a far different sport — figure skating.
"It was the Winter Games and watching Sarah Hughes win a gold medal at the age of 16," he says. "It was like, 'Wow!' … It just kind of took off from there, watching the Summer Games, just every event. It didn't matter if it was gymnastics, track and field and obviously wrestling."

Now 18, just months after graduation from Anoka (Minn.) High School, Deitchler is an Olympian himself as the U.S. entrant in the 145.5-pound class of Greco-Roman wrestling.

Winner of the U.S. trials in June in Las Vegas, he is the first wrestler to make the U.S. Olympic team straight out of high school since Mike Farina of Illinois qualified in 1976 in Greco-Roman.

What are his chances in China?

Thankfully, ABC is not carrying the Olympics. :D

And I, for one, am looking forward to watching the competition.

But I still disagree with the policy of allowing professional athletes to compete in the sport in which they make their living. That violates the spirit of the Olympics, which is supposed to be the ultimate in amateur athletics.

Wouldn't it be cool if Mpls/St Paul hosted the Olympics?
