NEW YORK -- Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy made more than 100 phone calls to a fellow official at the same time he was providing information to gamblers during the 2006-07 season, Fox News reported Monday.
Citing court documents and phone records it obtained, Fox reported Donaghy placed 134 calls to referee Scott Foster between October 2006 and April 2007, the period during which he has confessed to betting on games or passing on game information to gamblers.
I hope this is true, and I hope David Stern gets knocked off of his holy pedestal because of it. I can't believe he hasn't done any sort of investigating whatsoever for this putrid display. I said at the beginning, I guarantee he is not the only ref involved. Now it is looking like he probably wasn't.

I'd say your instincts on the Donaghy situation are right on target. You don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to think this was just one rouge official at work. When additional information like this starts to drip out in little bits and pieces it begins to mirror the pattern of other big scandals. At this point I think Stern's legendary ego will not allow him to reverse himself and conduct a full scale investigation by an independent third party (like the Mitchell thing in MLB) even if he knows that is the right course of action.
And this is why government intervention IS needed, especially considering how big of a thing sports are in our society. Even if it's only brought up, I doubt any commissioner wants the government getting involved. If nothing else it'd force him to do SOMETHING.
another issue the nba may have to face...some player from the hawks is thinking of accepting a 3 year twenty million dollar offer from a Greek (as in Greece, not Fraternity) team. With the weak dollar and the rise of basketball in Europe, I could imagine other player being lured away which could really reduce the overall talent level. Might even force a contraction of the league. Lets hope!!!
