So I turn on the Twins game...

Post by PurpleMustReign »

And the score is 5-2 Twins in the bottom of the 8th at Fenway Park. And the first pitch I see is a fielder's choice, Boston scores a run.
I flip the channel for a sec, turn it back... Manny Ramirez hits a two run home run. Tie game.
I flip the channel again... Kevin Yukolis hits a double on the first pitch I see when I change it back. :wallbang:
Flip the channel again... And I'll be damned if Some guy named Moss doesn't get a base hit on the NEXT pitch I see, and Boston has the lead and ends up winning. :steamed:

I will not turn on a Twins game ever again... (OK, so I will, but still, I See a total of 4 pitches, and it was the worst four possible)

Should have saw it coming. Especially the Ramirez HR. Small ball them for a 3 run lead and it takes them no time at all to blow it. ARG! I was so looking forward to Nathan coming in. :(

Tough series all around. But just as it looked like the Twins would head down a chute after having ascended a ladder, they make up a four run deficit and beat a divisional rival, the Tigers.

Baseball's a long season, and being ten games over .500 at this stage isn't a bad place to be. Don't be shocked if two teams make the playoffs from the Central. The Rays may well come back to earth (I doubt the Red Sox are going south, though.)

I have a friend at work who's a huge Tiger fan and had been doing some serious smack talk before this series. When I see him on Monday, I know he'll be thoroughly humbled.

I'm rarely psyched to contemplate going back to the office on a Monday morning, but this will help. The Tiger fan will likely rave for ten minutes about how the Twins play baseball exactly the way it should be played, and always seem to field competitive teams regardless of their talent level. I have a feeling that whether you're a White Sox fan, Royals fan, Indians fan or Tigers fan, you have an incredible amount of respect for the Twins.

I would love to see a sweep, but I won't get my hopes too high.
On ESPN they mentioned the Twins trading for a bat, and they mentioned Adrian Beltre from Seattle. I think that would be a great addition, although his salary is quite steep. I'm not sure how many years he has remaining on his contract. If the Twins get a power bat, I think their offense would be even better.
Another thing I would like to see is them possibly moving Gomez from lead off to either 2nd or 9th. He has struggled mightily lately, and actually hasn't produced much in the last couple moinths. But, I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it, and the Twins offense isn't broke right now.

The Twins newsgroup had some idiot Tiger fan in there before the series started doing the same thing. Of course. one need only look at the standings to realize what an idiot he is.

Let me tell you all something I got to see when living in Atlanta.
Game 3 of the '91 World Series.

Two unlikely teams, worst(ish) to first, on the biggest stage in the big show.

Twins led the series 2-0 after playing in Minnesota. Hrbek was greeted by chants of "cheater...cheater..." because he pulled Ron Gant off first base for a tag out in game 2(?). I reckon those of you in the land of ten thousand lakes (and a gazzillion mosquitoes) thought he was giving Gant a nice hug, but it seemed to us in Atlanta that Hrbek should have been wearing wrestling tights and a flamboyant cape when he walked onto the field. We also had the requisite "Hey Hrbek! Buy a vowel!!!" signs. It was great!

I didn't get home until about two in the morning after 12 innings, but happy that we won that night, or that morning.

Then the damn Twinkies won it all in a classic pitching duel beating Smoltz (who could use a vowel himself) in game seven.

That was a great series!

Maybe one of the best!

An ardent supporter of the hometown team should go to a game prepared to take offense, no matter what happens.

I think it was the best.

And the best ever Game 7. How can it not be? A pitching duel for 11 innings, a starting pitcher who pitches all 11 for the 1-0 win, and chances by both teams to win it earlier. Classic
!

Boy do I wish. After cutting the damn payroll this year, after finally getting the stadium. But no way they make any big moves. Unless Smith is an even big change then he's been so far over the previous GM.

Terry Ryan never would have made the Delmon Young trade. I will be curious if they go for Beltre, especially since Beltre is under contract for next season as well.

That would be a good thing, though; wouldn't it? He'd be more than a rent-a-player.

I think it'd be great, but his contract calls for $12 million. Unless they sign him to an extension, that would be cool. Have him be everyday, the Buscher could be the backup.

Yeah the one year remaining at 13.4 scares me. Unless we manage to get a solid two years out of him and then trade him again, no way this team gives him what he's going to want after that year.

As far as the Delmin Young trade...as of right now it would probably have been a better idea to not make it. I was pretty excited to get him too, expected quite a bit more out of him.

We still have the second half to get our money's worth out of him. You never know, he could get hot!

He hasn't been that bad, other than his lack of power. I think he's pressing a little too much. IT would be nice to see him catch fire for the rest of the year!!
