I'm sure you know this already but I feel obligated to point it out. You know "hurt" was written by Trent Reznor, right?Krulik wrote:Did you watch Cash's Hurt or God Will Cut You Down

Yeah I knew Nine Inch Nails did it first but that doesn't mean that Cash's version is far superior or that he can't relate to it. I know you werent implying that either, I'm just saying.
I think my favorite all time Cash song is Satisfied Mind.
Followed closely by Folsom Prison Blues.
I think the one I dislike the most is Ring of Fire.

Wow, well I know you would have enjoyed this. Brad Paisley was just performing his new single "Im still a guy'' and lo and behold, he brought out a special guest to sing the 2nd verse. Guess who, Hank Jr. It was awesome, despite the fact he was wearing a STEEL CURTAIN t-shirt, instant loss of respect!
None the less, it's been the moment of the night so far.

Yeah, I certainly wasn't saying that.Krulik wrote:Yeah I knew Nine Inch Nails did it first but that doesn't mean that Cash's version is far superior or that he can't relate to it. I know you werent implying that either, I'm just saying.

In my opinion the NiN version is better than Cash's. Of course, I actually like Nine Inch Nails and own several of Reznor's albums. The fact that Cash actually found "hurt" and listened to it says that he probably liked NiN too ... as that song wasn't exactly a "radio hit".
My favorite Cash song is "A boy named Sue".

Probably had more to do with Rick Rubin (the producer) as he opened Cash up to covering many different bands in the American Recordings (Soundgarden, Tom Petty, Depeche Mode, etc. were also covered by Cash under Rubin.) Rubin was also the man that got Run DMC to cover Walk this Way, as they only wanted to sample the riff and use their own rhymes.Cliff wrote: Yeah, I certainly wasn't saying that.

I'm a big NIN fan too, but like Cash's version of the song better. Its breathtaking. I also love his remake of "Rusty Cage" by one of my favorite bands, Soundgarden; though Soundgarden's is still a better recording of the two.
Now I can only hope that Rubin has enough magic in him to revitalize Metallica!
