left hand numbness...worried

anyone ever have their left hand go numb and tingle for an extended period of time? its like the left half of my left hand is numb and feels fat. my pinky finger and ring finger and thats it. keep in mind im 22 and healthy and very much into weight lifting. im getting kinda worried here, its been 3 hrs. no other symptoms or problems at the moment. comments?

Used to get the same thing all the time. It would come a go. Repetitive stuff will do it to you. It's not Carpal Tunnel, but if I was running parts on a machine in the shop and tightening a lot of clamps with my left hand, I would get it. I also went to the gym 3 days a week with some of the guys and we lifted a lot.

Haven't had the problem for a while, but used to. If it persists for a long period of time without subsiding, you might get it checked out.

thanks for the response kansas, last night i did work my biceps and forearms, and today they are very much tender/torn. this numbness didnt start until later today however, so im not sure? im right handed so..i dont know, i just took some aspirin and hopefully that will resolve the issue.

See a doctor. It could be anything from a pinched nerve to a minor stroke, who knows? It's probably nothing but why take the chance...

Probably wouldn't hurt to see a Doctor however, with the information you are giving it sounds like you have pinched a nerve.

If it was me, I wouldn't worry about it, at all. Unless you were lifting and your hand suddenly quit working, or you trapped it in somewhere, or fell on it.

But then, I don't have insurance. So unless it's something along the lines of a broken bone, or a disease I think would be serious, I don't worry about it. If my hand went numb, I'd probably look all over the net, look at what it could be, which is most likely a pinched nerve, I'd then wait a few days, and if it didn't go away I'd go to the doctor. (I've had a few in my lower back, shoulder, and wrist, they tend to be fine in a day or two)

Even when I had insurance I didn't worry about it unless I felt it was serious enough. Maybe if I was 7, or 57 I'd think otherwise. But right now I trust my body to take care of most of what ails me.

OK, work with WebMd... I'd go to a Dr. It isn't a insurance thing, there are avenues for everyone to get medical attention with or without insurance.

I don't have medical insurance.

I lift frequently too.

I've had the same thing happen, but not for 3 hours.
If you have insurance go to an "Urgent Care" not the emergency room.

you'll get the same service but it's a LOT cheaper.
Insurance will usually cover UC visits 100% but will charge $100 for an ER visit plus another $100 for the "doctor's service".
I got charged $200 to check on a sore throat that I thought would be strep.

thanks for all the responses guys, yes, u too demi lol. turns out that it lasted all thru the night and into the next morning, by noon the tingling was weak and went away finally. i knew it was probably just something minor, but asking the question couldnt hurt. again thanks, and go vikings!

I have gotten strep throat MANY times throughout my life and I dont need to pay a doctor $100 or more to jab me in the back of the throat to get a culture to test. When we go to Mexico each year on vacation, I usually pick up a bottle of amoxicilin and then when I get it, I save the $100 and just self medicate.

!!! I think I should make a mexico run someday...I hear they do teeth pretty cheap too.
