What would the out be? I am agreeing with Kapp on every point he made, but if we were to trade him in 2023, how much cap would we have, whats he worth, and could we get a 5th for him? People think a 5th is a wasted pick but somehow Rick saw the value of Diggs (he also saw the value in JJ right away so there that in Ricks credit).
There's always an out it's called getting released. Rick also saw value with these 1st round picks. Waynes,Traedwell,Hughes,Bradbury,Gladney. Rick and knowing value don't go together. No team would give anything for Cook. The biggest problem is his contract sucks. No team will take that on. If he was a QB then sure. Every team overpays non rookie QBs. There are not many that can throw effectively.
If I understand Spotrac correctly https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-v ... ook-21782/ releasing Cook this year would cost us $17,603,816 while keeping him would cost us $11,883,625. So yes we could release him but I sure don't see it happening. If I'm misunderstanding this somebody help me out. Would we still be on the hook for his dead cap hit in 23 and 24 or would that all be lumped into this years cap hit? I'm guessing it's all lumped into this year. So if we didn't care about winning now we could save future money by releasing him now. I think  :govikes: .
However, he's great. I sure like having him around.

There's no sense in releasing him at this point but that is the only out. This coach knows what his skills are. I think in a spread set he will do some good things just like he has in the past.

Assuming Cook plays like usual this year I can't see us releasing him next year to save $8million either. He's a very good player. However, isn't this the Ty Chandler thread. Way too much Cook talk here LOL. :govikes:
