For the #Vikings and QB Kirk Cousins, it’s a 2-year deal worth $66M, source said. In all, it’s 3 years, $96M. $61M guaranteed at signing.

Summing up the #Vikings deal for Kirk Cousins: 2 new years worth $66M. So 3 years in all for $96M. He has $61M guaranteed at signing. An additional $35M is guaranteed for injury but converts to a fully at the beginning of the 2021 season. They won’t cut him after 1 year and $61M.

Cousins' 2020 cap hit is lowered by $10 million, so it's now $21 million. What Cousins and his agent fought for in 2018 is essentially what they got on the extension. This deal is essentially GTD b/c the Vikings aren't likely to cut him after 1 season and pay him $61 million.

I like Cousins but continuing to pay him so much guaranteed money seems like a very questionable choice.

I agree. I don't think he's a horrible QB, but damn that's a lot. I understand it, because it's better for THIS year, but it also means we are married to him longer, and more importantly we are unlikely going to draft a QB soon.

Weirdest contract ever. 2 years? Why?

Then there is the fact it becomes fully guaranteed if they don't cut or trade him after next March? Did I read that right?

Just bizarre.

It basically means we're planning on moving on and trading him next year.

I have been hoping for a draft pick at QB. Hurts in rd3 would be awesome, but we need to draft wisely and release some players in next few years. I don't understand giving Cousins a ton of money unless they think he can win a SB

It's essentially the same contract as two years ago when we first got him.

Or perhaps "kicking the can down the road."

Nobody's going to take on that contract. You're looking at upwards of $40 million for year 2022.

Never say never. Texans traded Hopkins for jack and coke; there are plenty of idiots who will bite.

So much for a selfless guy who isn't in it for the money. He's going to bleed this team dry just like Stafford. At least it's only 2 years, hopefully we'll have more competent management by then.

According to Over the Cap, Minnesota Vikings Kirk Cousins will be paid $21 million in 2020, $31 million in 2021 and a whopping $45 million in 2022.

Me: he has a 10 million dead cap hit in 2022 so if they want to part ways they save 35 million. I'm wondering what QBs will make on average when 2022 rolls around.
