The Rick Spielman Special

18: R1P18
CB BYRON MURPHY
WASHINGTON

With Trae Waynes gone this year or next, and Mike Hughes his heir apparent, Murphy becomes next year's replacement for Xavier Rhodes should the team need further cap relief next year (8+ mil could be saved). He also adds extra insurance should Hughes not rebound from injury. As they'll say..."you can never have too many CBs".

50: R2P18
LB DEVIN BUSH
MICHIGAN

Anthony Barr is gone, but Devin Bush brings value at this point, and versatility. I prefer him at MLB, but he might slide right into Barr's spot.

81: R3P17
C ERIK MCCOY
TEXAS A&M

McCoy is a zone blocking C with G versatility and the ability to move and block in space. He's a great scheme fit, and Spielman doesn't often draft interior OL before this point in the draft.

120: R4P18
RB JUSTICE HILL
OKLAHOMA STATE

Hill is a scheme fit in a zone blocking offense. He's not a power back but he has good vision and makes sudden cuts. He's also good as a receiver. Like McCoy, this is drafting for scheme fit.

192: R6P17
DL ED ALEXANDER
LSU

Space eating defensive tackle we've needed to back up Linval.

210: R6P35
LB GARY JOHNSON
TEXAS

We're in the special teams/depth prospect phase, where Spielman likes to go heavy with LBers and TEs.

249: R7P33
TE MATT SOKOL
MICHIGAN STATE

See above.

254: R7P38
LB BLAKE CASHMAN
MINNESOTA

See above.

18: R1P18
EDGE MONTEZ SWEAT
MISSISSIPPI STATE
(Bye-bye Griffen)

50: R2P18
LB DEVIN BUSH
MICHIGAN
(Bye-bye Barr)

81: R3P17
G MICHAEL DEITER
WISCONSIN

120: R4P18
C DARRYL WILLIAMS
MISSISSIPPI STATE

192: R6P17
G KEATON SUTHERLAND
TEXAS A&M

210: R6P35
CB JUSTIN LAYNE
MICHIGAN STATE

249: R7P33
OT MITCH HYATT
CLEMSON

254: R7P38
K AUSTIN SEIBERT
OKLAHOMA

Not as familiar as I usually am with college football, but this was interesting to do. Both Iowa TEs went in the first 12 picks in mine...
Money saved with Griffen and Barr would go towards FA OL.

Its a fun way to familiarize yourself with players, especially those who aren't 1st rounders. As you get closer to the draft it will be quite different than it is now, as the consensus about various players begins to emerge. This is a great time of year for draft stuff, because opinions still diverge quite a bit.
