Linval Joseph Stands Out

Joseph, in the midst of a terrific individual season, had a whale of a game Sunday in the Vikings' 21-18 overtime win against the Rams. Joseph had seven tackles from the middle of the defensive line, which is two shy of his career high.
He set the tone in the middle, and the Vikings defense limited standout rookie running back Todd Gurley to 89 rushing yards on 24 carries. The Rams relied on Gurley, end-around plays, the speed of Tavon Austin, and some play-action misdirection Sunday. But seemingly every time the Vikings defense succeeded in driving Gurley back to the middle of the field, Joseph was there to swallow him up.

"I'm just glad my teammates put me in position to make plays," Joseph said. "Everybody was doing their job, and Gurley was running straight down to me and I just made the play when it's time to make the play."
More at the link. I thought Joseph and Greenway were huge keys to yesterday's win.

I thought Joseph played like an all pro today.. He made some great tackles and was killing the OL of the Rams ..

Greenway made a few nice plays too. Barr had an incredible tackle as well...

Our defense was awesome...

This was the first game our OL played decent IMO.. Donald was the only player consistently
getting upfield. I am hoping Easton gets a shot to play...

I can't wait to get Floyd back. He and Joseph might be the best tandem DTs in the entire league

Me too, Jim.

Joseph isn't just having a good season. He's having a dominant season. Everybody is playing well. Heck, even Sendejo was better than usual yesterday.

I haven't enjoyed watching a Vikings defense this much since the 70s.

That's what I'm saying. This team has a totally different character and quality than all the Vikings teams since I started following the team around 1990.

Well, if that quality is "they play good defense" you're close to right. :) They've had some good defensive units during that time span but not enough to balance out the terrible ones... *shudder*

I'm thinking the same thing. Joseph looks terrific. Put a healthy Floyd back in there and they'll be a great tandem.

I can't wait to see the kind of pressure up the middle that Joseph and Floyd will bring. It will elevate the entire defense's game.

Imagine how fun it would be if we still had Antoine Winfield on a mike zimmer coached D. Damn I miss Winfield, he was the one bright spot on a couple very bad defenses we had.
