Thoughts Week 6

The Good
- Diggs is showing to be a good receiver for the Vikings. I believe he has more yards in two games than the other receivers have in 5 (haven't checked stat lines to confirm)
- The defense shows week in and week out that they are the strength of this team
- Although ugly, the Vikings found a way to pull out a win. Improving to 3-2 on the season.
- Teddy played a pretty decent game (minus the two picks, one being a bad pass the other being a great play by Peters)
- Walsh hit on all his attempts today

The Bad
- The offensive line can not play worth a lick. Hopefully they improve once Sullivan comes back.
- Wallace with the two drops. Has he done anything for us? Seems like a wasted trade.
- Officiating was bad for both teams. Missed the safety and the blown whistle are the two big plays.

The Ugly
- Throwing the interception in the red zone.
- Offensive play calling as a whole.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct flag at the end on Barr.

Nice to see Rudolph making a contribution.

It's maddening that we can't open holes for Peterson, though. :wallbang:

Wallace played okay, but dropped a couple, Diggs was very impressive, Wright was good, too. The WR's were a factor today, and that's nice to see.

If we could only get a game going where both the running game and passing game are working, we might be dangerous.

Defense was very solid, all around. So were the special teams.

I think I will prefer Johnson and Diggs as our WR1 and WR2 starting combo moving forward. Not sure what to think of Wallace.

It's not like Johnson has shown anything this year, even before he got hurt.

Good:
They won a game where they didn't play well, and they FINISHED (on defense anyway), something that they haven't done in a long time.
Diggs is looking awesome. Cordarrelle who?
Walsh didn't miss a kick for th first time this season.
The pass protection was not bad... Teddy had time, he just threw the ball really poorly. That last pass to Ellison was horrific.

Bad:
The run blocking was awful. The fact that AD got as many yards as he did speaks more to him than it does of the OLine.
The officiating was disgusting for both sides. At least they were consistently bad.

Awful:
Barr at the end. Use your head, moron.
The playcalling. Really... a long bomb when you are trying to run out the clock??? WTF? I wonder how much longer Zimmer will put up with that crap?

Yeah good point. At least Johnson and Bridgewater had some chemistry last year. I haven't seen any chemistry between Wallace and Bridgewater yet except for a couple throws in the Denver game.

Diggs really is looking like a future star for the Vikings. That's great to see. And no fumbles today.

Am I the only one who holds his breath every time Walsh is going to kick a field goal, regardless how short or long it is?

Anyway, congratulations to Walsh for making his kicks. He contributed as much as anyone else.

I think the playcalling had something to do with Johnson not coming up big at the beginning of this season.

Johnson deserves a chance when he comes back. The kid is multi-talented and he had great chemistry with Bridgewater last season. All he needs is to be healthy.

FYI that the ref apologized to Barr for the call. It was pretty clear Barr was celebrating, not taunting.

The pass protection was pretty bad at times.

In his defense, I thought he was trying to walk towards Rhodes to congratulate him on a good play but the ref misinterpreted Barr's actions as walking to the sidelines to taunt the Chiefs but I think he got the flag when he tried pushing the issue.

Are people forgetting Wallace's game vs. Denver? Also, he's been dealing with an injury. He's fine.

The defense is 17th in what category? Because the one that matters, points per game, they're third at 16.6 behind Green Bay (16.2) and New York Jets (15).

Good:
— They moved the ball well in the first half, especially in the 1st quarter.
— Dominant first half defense and good, solid defense for most of the second half
— Diggs is emerging as a highly effective player that will be hard to keep off the field
— Jarius Wright
— Bridgewater extending plays, moving the team and hitting Rudolph on a beautifully-thrown TD

Bad:
— Poor run blocking
— Inefficient red zone offense. This game could have been a blowout before halftime if the Vikes had made the most of their opportunities
— Two INTs and too many inaccurate throws by Bridgewater.
— Some questionable playcalling
— What seemed like too many penalties (I haven't checked the numbers)

They started the game dominating the Chiefs and ended up in danger of losing it. They have to capitalize on the kind of opportunities they created in the first half and start minimizing the lapses that keep teams in games or let them get back in games.

The #1 positive is they won.

Even IF that penalty had been correctly called on Barr (it wasn't) it was inconsequential. I'm not worried about it.

Our defense is really good in my opinion.
