While looking at some stat on the New England Patriots it occurred to me that they are a great example of how a new owner and then a new coach, the right coach can make a difference in the winning percentage of a team. Prior to 1994 when Kraft bought the team the Pats had a measly winning percentage(since 1971 the year of the merger) of .451. In the immediate 6 years after that purchase that percentage went up to .563. In 2000, Kraft hired Belichick. In the 13 years since that hiring the Pats have put up an amazing .760 winning percentage.

Here's hoping the Zimmer is the Vikings Belichick.

I agree and would add that the Vikes have GREAT owners in the Wilfs.

I'll second that!

Coaching and ownership definitely make a difference but don't forget the significance of a good GM and personnel management. I think that's the third part of the equation. Good personnel management was a key to the Pats success and I don't think there's a more important area of a team for ownership to get right, even their choice of head coach (although that's probably equally important). Spielman's going to be a key factor in the success or failure of Zimmer and the Vikings. I know I repeat it so often it's practically a mantra but talent wins in the NFL.
