Meanwhile, there's an ongoing discussion of Ponder being booed. If Ponder had gone down with a concussion, is there much doubt that Vikings fans would have cheered? I have none. It's sad, but situation had become that toxic.

If Cassel stinks it up in front of a stadium full of Vikings fans clamoring for Teddy Bridgewater, is there much doubt that the good folks in the stands will boo Cassel? No.

In theory. In reality, they're just different degrees of the same thing. Everyone condemned the KC fans, as though they were somehow different than fans in any other city. They're not. I guarantee you that the fans packing the stands in the Humpty Dome would have cheered until they were hoarse had Ponder been carted off the field on a stretcher last season.

That's probably be going a bit far but I agree with you that Vikes fans booing Ponder because they think he stinks comes from the same basic place as the cheering Chiefs fans did when Cassel suffered a concussion and had to leave a game. The Chiefs fans booed Cassel because they thought he stunk and they cheered when he got injured... because they thought he stunk.

as much as these guys get paid, and we have to pay to see them we have the right to boo whenever we want. the truth is, if someone gets injured and the crowd boos, most of the time its simply because they aren't coming back in the game (not because they got hurt).

You also have a responsibility to be a decent person. It doesn't matter why you're cheering, it's absolutely in poor taste to cheer while somebody is being taken off the field. If you want to cheer, cheer for the guy who comes into the game and bring him up instead of putting the injured player down.

About as classless as refering to Ponder as a turd or a cancer.

I'm responding because you quoted my post, and I don't think you were necessarily referring to me. But referring to Ponder in those terms is something I oppose very strongly.

I too like Cassell. I think he will surprise a few people this season after being kinda screwed with last year. The only game he played poorly last year was Carolina against a tough defense and he wasn't the Viking that played bad that game. Go CASSEL

It's absolutely not the same. But I stand by my original statement that the behavior is born out of exactly the same thing ... pent up fan frustration. And not always with the player. In the Vikings case, fans last year were fed up with the totally overmatched coaching staff and the entire Vikings organization for the product that they put on the field. Far more than with the shortcomings of any given player.

I sure didn't think so. If I remember correctly, he threw two bad picks and almost a third of his passing yardage came on a late TD drive in garbage time at the end of the game. He had a good completion percentage on the day but he and the offense were ineffective most of the game.
