Round 2-3 prospects

10 potential Day Two targets for the Vikings

"Most" teams view Utah DB Keith McGill as a S and not a CB, according to draft insider Tony Pauline.
Pauline notes that McGill "looks impressive in training (and is) expecting a great result at combine." Our own Josh Norris was impressed with McGill's Senior Bowl week, but he is strictly a press corner with size. Utah used him incorrectly too often.
McGill earned All-American honors at Cerritos Junior College and signed with Utah as a highly regarded free safety, rated No. 11 among all Juco players by Rivals.com. He played in five games at this position in 2011 before a shoulder injury ended his season early and missed all of 2012 in a lengthy rehab following surgery to correct the issue.
Moved to cornerback during the spring of 2013, McGill earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors from the coaches as a senior.

An annual tradition at the Senior Bowl is the explosion of at least one "small school" cornerback onto the national scene. Though his collegiate career was spent at two universities most college football fans couldn't find on a map, with 25 interceptions Desir didn't have to wait until his impressive performance in Mobile, Ala. to catch the attention of scouts.
Born in Haiti, Desir grew up playing soccer and the fluidity with which he plays American football is testament to this experience. He was lightly recruited out of high school and wound up at Washburn before transferring to Lindenwood in large part due to the financial burden of raising a family. At both programs - just as he did at the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game - Desir's length and athleticism stood out.
Desir is clearly a work in progress from a technical standpoint but with the NFL increasingly willing to gamble on size at cornerback, he could wind up among the top 100 selections of the 2014 draf

Holy moly this Lamarcus Joyner little bastard reminds me of Winfield. Tenacious and sharp.
More of a slot corner they say and with Munnerlyn in that role kinda doubt we take him but wouldnt mind a bit if we did.

Joyner is feisty. Reminds me of Jason Verrett a bit. I think you're right, he's more of a slot guy and we have other needs that are more pressing.

Round 2 is full of really solid prospects; I'm wondering if the Vikings will attempt to package a 3rd and a 5th to try to get back into the 2nd.
Marquis Lee is still on the board. That's really unexpected, IMO. I don't think we need a WR so bad that we move up for him, but he's a talented guy.
If we stand pat, I'm looking for a G and S/CB in the 3rd.

With as cursed as we are in the third round, I don't think it would be a bad idea to move up into round two if there is a guy we really like!
No, but in all seriousness, we should be able to land some key depth guys tonight.
Some guys to watch include: Dion Bailey (safety, USC), Keith McGill (CB, Utah), Craig Loston (safety, LSU), Cyrill Richardson (guard, Baylor), David Yankey (guard, Stanford), Gabe Jackson (guard, Miss. St.), Preston Brown (linebacker, Louisville), Kareem Martin (defensive end, North Carolina), Ego Ferguson (defensive tackle, LSU), Trent Murphy (defensive end, Stanford).

Jean-Baptiste is the big one I want. But he and Joyner will both be gone. The NFL has gone DB crazy.
Carey at 5th wouldn't be too bad. But we need DB and a G first.

Well, the 3rd from seattle is the 32nd pick in the 3rd round, so adding just a 5th isn't going to move us up 32+ spots to get into the 2nd. Our 3rd that's 8th in the 3rd round + the 5th might do it though. In Spielman we trust!
