Least Coast Offense

What part of this offense is supposed to be West Coast?
Here are some things that I think are fundamental to a WCO that we don't do.
1. Screens and bubbles to running backs, full backs and tight ends...
NOPE.
2. Premium put upon the running back having good hands and pass protection ability.
LOL NO
3. Hitting people in stride for YAC
Hahahahaha. Oh hell no.
4. Effective play action passing
NOPE
5. Trick and gadget plays to spice up a fundamentally sound pass attack.
NOPE
6. Using the pass threats provided by your running backs and tight ends to set up 15+ yard strikes down the field.
No. We're one of the worst in the league 10+ yards out.
7. Wide open, threatening play options in every stage of the offense. No predictability. 3rd and 5 could be a bomb down the field,
running back up the gut, screen play or strike to a tight end.
You have got to be kidding me. This is the most formulaic and predictable offense in the league.

That's why our version is still called the KAO. It hasn't changed since Childress was here. Its junk. We haven't had an effective OC or QB.

It's because Frazier never made this team his own. He stayed with everything Childress did. This team needs to flush it all away and start new, it's boring! He wanted to emulate what the 49ers and Seahawks are doing, but this isn't close. This is 1940s George Halas football, except it's 2013. You have better odds winning with exciting offense and good defense, especially in domes. Rare to build the defense needed as a dome team, to play this style.

Exactly. And I had to endure decades of Halas Football before defecting to Minnesota and the Vikings during our exciting years of Culpepper at QB. I can't believe I have to endure Halas football all over again. Hopefully that ends today.
No matter what happens I want Frazier and Musgrave gone, and I don't want a DC for head coach.

Haha, "least coast offense" is about right too. But yeah I've been saying for awhile now that our offense is nothing like the WCO. And I mean NOTHING.

You have a good point there. Part of what made the Purple People Eaters so good was bad and cold weather. That's also why people mistakenly believe defenses win championships, because it's easier for defenses when the weather is cold, and the playoffs are in January. There is no weather advantage playing in a dome.

I agree with most of what the OP said. The only thing I wonder about is the poor hands of the RB. Since we hardly ever throw to the RB via screens or coming out of the backfield we have never really given Peterson a chance. It's true he can't block well but I put That on the coaches. As determined as this Guy is I don't believe he can't learn to be a good blocker. Again its poor coaching.
Musgrave is a terrible OC and definitely needs to go. There is no imagination here. How about spreading out the defense to give AD some running lanes? How about turtling up then to show run then suddenly spreading out just before the snap?

Probably because all that motion would confuse Ponder. He likes to lock on his receiver as early as possible so if they're moving before the snap he'll lose track of his first read xD. Sorry I couldn't resist.

I just wonder if it wouldn't serve Musgrave better to call the game from the booth. I just question how well anybody is really seeing what's going on.

Or going into no huddle and mixing it with 2 and 3 minute offense to control temp and throw defenses off balance?
Do we do that? NOPE. What do we do that a WCO is supposed to do? Roll our right handed quarterback to the left?
Pass behind the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 12?

The Whole childress era needs to go. The Schemes both offensive and defensive and every coach connected to Childress west coast cover 2 crap. Really, is any facet of it working at all?
