Benched for who? Cassel? MBT? Get real. Unless the Vikings can somehow rehabilitate Vince Young for a season, and I think that might take a Dr. Frankenstein-type madness and a well-timed lightning storm, there are no options.

Ponder did his best to lose that game. I trust Cassel to play better than Ponder has in most games. He's at least had some real success in the NFL. Even if it was a few years ago. Those throws to Mr. Nobody in that last preseason games where throws Ponder doesn't have the balls to try, or the ability to complete.

Rosenfels is still available. I'd take him over Ponder at this point, and he knows the system. I don't think there is a decent answer without a trade though.

Cassel is the only viable option, but I expect Ponder will get at least another 3 full games and maybe up to 6 more before Frazier has to hit the panic button. Until then, his slow and steady approach will dictate that no drastic moves be made. The only way this changes before things get really ugly is a Ponder injury. Given the dude's penchant for holding onto the ball too long and still taking nasty hits, I'd say Fate might be more kind to Vikings fans and end this suffering earlier than that, but I think we're looking at mid-season before anything drastic happens.
Ponder, for his part, better pull his head out of his arse and starting playing QB like his job depends on it, because the clock is really ticking on the dude. Safe and steady isn't going to win the race for him. He has to start slinging it and taking charge of things or he's going to be gone. Like that near pick-six where he stared down his receiver. He has to know defenses expect him to do that, so he's got to show he can take advantage of it by staring a guy down, pump-faking to draw the defender out of position, then burning him with a throw to another guy. Ponder has to show he can take charge of things or he's going to be done and nobody is going to want him.

And exactly what am I supposed to do with my extremely expensive tickets to said home opener?
Get real. I'm going. If it gets bad, I'll just drink more.

I was thinking the same thing. oh no...100 people didn't show up because our qb sucks. and they already paid for their tickets. we better do something about our qb situation fast....

Why don't you buy tickets and than give them away? Quit being such a fair weather fan.

Fans cannot send a message. The owners are immune to such things. I was told that when I suggested the fans helped run Chilly out of town. I was silly to think such a thing is possible.
And I would rather not see Cassel anytime soon. He wasn't impressive enough in preseason and if we're going to sink this year, let it be with Ponder so we can finally put this project to bed. If Cassel comes in and stinks it up then people are going to start thinking maybe Ponder isn't as big of a problem as he is and we'll have to go through all this crap again next year.

Cassel isn't the answer either, though. We need to acquire a quality guy during the off-season -- though that doesn't mean to reach in the first round to grab a third rounder (been there, done that).
