I think he still has a lot left in him, he'll be strong to finish out his career.

You and I don't always see eye to eye but I think you described the benefits Jennings should bring to the offense very well and I agree that he should be good for Ponder's development. I also agree with you and Craig that Jennings and Harvin are very different players. This wasn't a move to replace the specific traits Harvin brought to the offense, it was a move to upgrade the receiving corps.GBFavreFan wrote:I think Jennings will excel as a Viking, and he will actually be better for this team than Percy Harvin. Keep in mind, I still love Percy Harvin and i think he is a true unique talent and he will wreck shop in Seattle. But while Percy was our best WR, his style is not that of a conventional #1 wideout. Greg Jennings is. And while Percy was dependable for Ponder in the sense CP could dump it to him at various points around the field and Percy would make all sorts of things happen, Jennings will run his routes as the standard #1 option wideout, and get that separation like he usually does and Ponder will find him in ways that the plays call for.
Having Jennings as a straight up #1 WR type who can actually catch the balls thrown to him (as opposed to our other palookas) and get separation is going to help Christian Ponder's development tremendously IMO. And once that happens it trickles down throughout the entire offense and Ponder lives up to his potential. Jennings also has great experience and was the best WR on a Super Bowl team. He has credibility and the desire to help out the new guys like Jarius Wright and future rookie wideouts.
I have to agree on Kevin Seifert's take on Jennings. Here's part of it:Mothman wrote: You and I don't always see eye to eye but I think you described the benefits Jennings should bring to the offense very well and I agree that he should be good for Ponder's development. http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_ ... g-jenningsAfter watching an archived video of Jennings' news conference, one quote struck me among all others. Asked about quarterback Christian Ponder's inconsistent career, Jennings said in part: "What I've seen on film, he didn't have a lot of options to go to. No disrespect to the guys he was throwing the ball to, but you can get the sense that he needed a little more around him to get some help." I can't argue with that well-spoken but blunt assessment. We all agree that great quarterbacks can elevate receivers, but opinions are split on whether great receivers can improve a quarterback. My take: Ponder has no shot without a credible group of receivers. So by default, Jennings will help him.
ONLY if Aaron Rodgers becomes our starting QB...PurpleMustReign wrote:The world is over and we're all gonna die.

We should tell him about this message board. Maybe he will give us free tickets to a Vikings game![]()

As special as Percy is, I believe the Vikings, due to style issues and our QB, will be a better team with Jennings than with Harvin. And what's great is that we're paying Jennings less than what Percy is making in Seattle which is basically what he would've cost had we extended him. I'd like to think his injuries the past couple years were somewhat cumulative and he's now 100% healthy. And assuming he avoids an injury bug I think Jennings will have a long and successful second half of his career and play his full contract with us if not more. Assuming he stays healthy, Jennings is the best WR we've had since Randy Moss and by the time he's done he's going to be looked at in the upper echelon of great Viking receivers like the Carters, Moss, Rashad, etc.
