Spielman raves about Georgia's Ogletree

Post by Superfreak84 »

Rick spielman tuned into KFAN the other day as he joined the feast with Paul Allen and Paul Charchian as he touched on a few topics. One of them being on Percy Harvin and his future on the team-to which Spielman remained mum. He also talked about the upcoming draft and who they might target with pick 23. Spielman started to "rave" about the Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Alec Ogletree and how he could fill one of our linebacker holes. Take a look on vikings.com, the 50 minute video will be there to check out. Personally I doubt he is there at 23, but maybe Spielman is on the verge of making a proactive decision come draft day!

Ogletree grades out (at least, pre-combine) to go right around where the Vikings are picking.

Even with the hype around the linebackers in this draft, traditionally the first half of the first round is where you take the guys who grade out at the very top, o and d tackles, and quarterbacks. The second half is where GMs are more apt to consider the second or third best linebacker, second or third best wide receivers...that sort of thing.

A lot of GMs still pretend to be infatuated with a player so a team drafting before them jumps on the guy in order to make a deal, especially in the second half of the first. Its usually pretty obvious when a team is playing that angle, but in the Vikings case, they do have a well-known weakness at middle linebacker and possibly at strong side as well. I think Spielman realizes that Ogletree, in most years, is probably the first linebacker taken in the draft and probably a top 15 pick most years. This year has some abnormally good linebackers...maybe that partially led to this quarterback class being so crummy, too.

Don't know what Spielman's point is, were not going to get him.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

The point might be that he is a good poker player .. he could be trying to influence someone
else's pick ..
