We can post some thoughts on possible impact guys here. I'm in the camp that a blue-chip WR is an imperative addition this year (slightly nudging out LB and CB in my eyes), and in addition to my preference to add through free agency AND the draft, my gut says draft is the likeliest outcome for a legit play-maker. Instead of making a separate thread for each of them, let's consolidate here.

Possibles: Keenan Allen (consensus #1 and probably no-brainer if he lasts to us, but he won't), Terrance Williams, Robert Woods, Cordelle Patterson, DeAndre Hopkins.

Kind of an under-the-radar guy that could be a surprise riser in the months leading up to the draft is Louisiana Tech's Quinton Patton.

WR Quinton Patton (6’2/195), Louisiana Tech - The smooth receiver is one of the class’ best, contorting his body to adjust to poorly thrown passes and creating separation with excellent routes. There is a lot of Reggie Wayne to his game and Patton could end up being a “surprise” top-32 selection.

Patton is a section favorite due to his fluidity in routes and body control while adjusting to make the catch. Player comparisons are tricky, but a lot of his game reminds us of Reggie Wayne, and Patton may end up being the top outside senior receiver drafted in April. Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks previously stated that Patton was his most difficult matchup in college.

Former NFL Scout Russ Lande lists Louisiana Tech's Quinton Patton as his top senior WR.
Patton ranks as the 18th overall player/ Cal junior Keenan Allen is the top overall receiver on Lande's board, coming in number six. Tavon Austin comes in just behind Patton at number 20.

I don't know much about either of them, but PA was talking about Aaron Dobson earlier, and I've heard a couple places mention DeAndre Hopkins as well.

Dobson will also be playing in Senior Bowl.

I'm not a big fan of Hopkins. He's about Harvin's size, but he's not nearly as good. Despite the opinion that he can be an outside receiver, I think he would be a reach at #23.

Dobson is very intriguing. He has the size, speed, body control, and production you look for in a #1. While I thought he might last into the 2nd due to his college competition, it's looking increasingly likely he'll be pushing into the 1st. He may really rocket up the board if he shows well at the Combine and his pro day.

Oregon State wide receiver Markus Wheaton had an excellent practice. He avoided press coverage with his quickness and showed a second gear when the ball went up in the air. He can play outside or line up in the slot. His versatility and play-making skills have the attention of scouts and personnel men.

• Kansas State WR Chris Harper had an excellent day of practice. Showcased his ability to extend his arms and expand his catch radius in drills. Was a bit sloppy in the stop and go drill, but made up for it on a battle with Phillip Thomas where Thomas was right on him but Harper made a great leaping catch near the sideline. Good physical talent

What do you guys think of Terrance Williams (Baylor)?

I have seen at least one mock project the Vikings taking him. I like his production and that he has strong hands and serious speed.

Then again, you watch highlights of a guy like Cordarrelle Patterson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjxkQXlCAfE) and it's pretty tough to not prefer a truly explosive game-changer at #23. Put Patterson w/ AD and Percy (the 3 Ps) and we'd have some very exciting weapons.

I don't see how Williams is being touted as a prospect at #23 beyond his measurables. He's not particularly physical, not particularly a great YAC guy, and he seems to go to the ground a lot while making the catch and/or to avoid contact.

I wouldn't mind Williams in the 3rd, but not at #23.

I agree that 23 would be high for Williams, but I highly doubt he'll last to our 3rd rd. pick. He put up serious numbers with two different QBs.

Where is Patterson projected right now? His highlight film was pretty entertaining.
