webb is a joke

at no point in yesterday's game did we have a real chance. webb either threw ground balls, or 10 feet over the receivers head. what a horrible way to lose in what was a relatively good season. i'm not sure how hurt ponder was, but if he played, i think we would have been right in the game. joe webb is not even backup quality in the nfl, and yet many people have called for him to start all year. that was the worst playoff game i've every witnessed in my 33 years on this earth. what a total travesty of a game. we were humiliated on every single level by the packers.

41-0 NFCCG loss was a "better" then? (And that was our starting QB, not our backup)

i'll agree that was bad, but that game was no different that yesterdays game. we were never in either of them. keep in mind, we had serwanga as a corner then. in that game, our secondary was the worst in nfl history so it wasn't surprising.

It was frustrating to watch because like you, I never felt we had a chance to win. By the time the Packers scored their 2nd touchdown, it was undeniable. Webb had shown by then he had nothing to offer, so even though it was only 14-3, it was pretty clear. Definitely a crappy way to go out.
I want to get mad and bash Webb, but I'm not sure it's fair. Can you get mad at someone for sucking so bad? I mean, he was thrown into a situation that was clearly too big for him, and unlike many failures we've seen before, he simply doesn't have the ability to succeed.

well i understand what you are saying, but i honestly believe our 3rd stinger would have been better. we were never in yesterday's game for a single second and that is frustrating. it was like watching murphy's law in real life, a total waste and joke.

You must acknowledge that Webb has benefitted from a number of seasons under the Vikings "Coaching"....and THIS is the best he can do!?!? ANd this is a player that the Coaches have confidence in as an important back UP??!?! Both the coaches/talent assesment AND our current pair of QB's are a FRIGGIN LAUGING STOCK....the Vikes are pitiful.

Drama much?
The pitiful Vikings just went 10-6 and made the playoffs.
Get a grip. It was a bad game.

Didn't play at all during the regular season and was thrown to the wolves in on a road playoff game against the same team we just played the week prior. That is the context and the reality and not a good recipe for success.

I think this post belongs in the circular file.

I agree. But its also horrible coaching, horrible talent scouting (if Webb was all they could come up with as a backup QB), and bad drafting. I think at least 75% of the people on this board never wanted to see Webb, and yet the coaching staff has been fine with him as out backup and let Sage go?

That's the thing. It wasn't really a terrible game. With Webb at quarterback, they had zero chance to win, playing good or bad. The defense played about the same as they had against the Packers in the other games, and Peterson had nearly 100 yards. No, this game was a lost cause from the start.
I love Joe Webb the person. Great, upbeat, physically talented kid. But he has limited skills and absolutely no head for playing quarterback in the NFL. I really don't think he has any place on the Vikings roster of the future. The Vikings now just need to find two new QBs to displace him.

Here's the deal.
A bad game by a clueless backup quarterback is not an indictment on the entire organization. For anybody who can't see the improvement, not just in the record but in the entire organization, ask yourself if it's a coincidence that the turnaround occurred at the same time as the death of the TOA.

I agree J kapp. I have been tough on Ponder and Fraizer and Ponder all year. Overall so. We had an excellent draft. IMO, one of our best overall ever, and we had one guy go down the first game. But Webb as a backup? come one. We shouldnt have let Sage go. And we should have let Webb go last year. Its a tiny thing, but turned out to be a big thing last night.
We are in so much better shape now then when Favre and Childress were here. Every person on this board has got to know this.

No, but it raises question marks about the organization and why that QB was the best alternative behind a starter who himself is nothing to write about.
