Who Should Start Next Week?
Who should start next week?
Re: Who Should Start Next Week?
Ponder. For every game unless he's injured. And find another QB to start in the offseason.

No, most people would call that an assumption.Todd R wrote: Do you consider a lack of talent an injury?

I'm inclined to agree with Demi on this and say start Ponder for the rest of the season, and then find another QB next year in the draft or free agency. However, I think sitting Ponder right now might actually be good for the team and him.
So, I picked start Webb. Might as well see what he can do. Personally, I don't see Webb as a starter but there's only one way to find out if he's improved enough to do the job.

Does "noodle-arm" qualify as an injury? What about panic attacks?
Time to see what young Webb can do.

Start ponder and if hes having a great game keep him in, if hes being his usual self at the end of the first half put Webb in for the rest of the game.
Re: Who Should Start Next Week?
I agree. For every game that Ponder plays and looks like a 7th round rookie playing in his first game, the probability that the Vikings get a clue and decide to find a new starting QB next year increases. If the Vikings lose out, it will be the best thing that could happen for this team's future. (How incredibly sad is it being fans of an NFL team where that can be said?)losperros wrote:I'm inclined to agree with Demi on this and say start Ponder for the rest of the season, and then find another QB next year in the draft or free agency.

In usual self do you mean bring the Vikings from down 14-28 points and almost winning?Infinity wrote:Start ponder and if hes having a great game keep him in, if hes being his usual self at the end of the first half put Webb in for the rest of the game.

That is why it would be great to see him brought in when Ponder struggles. Or even try a two-headed monster of co-QBs. (Nah, that would open a HUGE can of worms) In any case, it needs to happen with Webb as a non-starter. When teams prepare for him, he falls to earth. But with the way Ponder has been playing, anything seems like an improvement at this point.80 PurplePride 84 wrote:
Joe Webb is a different QB when he comes in in relief as opposed to when he's named a starter and teams have time to prepare.
The Eagles game was great and all but that was an anomaly with a whole bunch of variables involved around that game.
I really want the kid to succeed, but it has become painfully obvious he may not be the answer.

I didnt think you would be for keeping Ponder in at all im kind of surprised! I voted Ponder only because he is our only option to progress into the future. You just have to hope he fixes the Mechanics and tendency to spring out of the pocket when things arent as bad as they seem around him. The perfect example was Rudolph was down the seam and Ponder broke out of the pocket and if he would of stayed maybe 1/2 second longer he could of connected for a touchdown. I know our receivers are nothing. Simpson and Wright should be the only ones remaining on the Roster next year including Harvin for sure. Ponder has to make plays though and help them get open. He has to sell the play action and he has to look defenders off to help open up receivers instead of staring at his Bro Kyle Rudolph.

Re: Who Should Start Next Week?
The thing is there arent any Quarterbacks worth taking a huge stab in the first round. Barkley and Geno are going to be off the baord and Barkley comes from a long strain of USC Quarterbacks not succeeding along with having similar traits to Ponder. The only possible solutions would be to acquire someone through free agency, trade for maybe a Matt Flynn or some 2nd string quarterback on a team with a great QB, or draft in the later rounds and hope to find a Gem. I dont know why people are all for Alex Smith? The guy is what Ponder is without crazy athleticism and doesnt turn the ball over as much. We have to end up going through another year of Ponder but potentially with a better Wide Receiver course and other weapons. He could magically wake up and notice that you throw with your legs not your arm in football and baseball alike. On the long ball to Peterson he was standing almost horizontally, no wonder he doesnt get any oomf on the ball like that. If you watch Rodgers Brees or Brady they drive off of their legs to get their zip. Just frustrated that the coaches dont fix all these mechanical problems with him...

Play offs are outta the picture it seems, I voted Webb but i have doubts he will see a snap this season no matter how inept ponder is. Like it or NOT ponder designed to be the future of this organization. Idk if Fraizer will get fired this season but my guess not anytime soon Ponder will see the bench.

Although I like Webb, I was about to select Ponder to start. I would pull him if he didn't produce. And maybe tell him that. If your QB is no good under psychological pressure, there's not much of a point in playing him.
But this is the Bears defense. They are a takeaway machine. I'd start Webb right away, and give them something new to think about.

Re: Who Should Start Next Week?
If we end up getting into a playoff position, it will be because Ponder wasn't as awful as he's been lately. And no coach would then put in his second stringer in that situation.GBFavreFan wrote:I say keep Ponder in there to erase all doubt and build enough evidence to move on from him for next year.
