Aw, thats a shame. I hope he stuck it to his ex wife. Eh, just because.
Eaters of the Dead, Jurassic Park, and The Terminal Man are my favorites.
Sphere was good, too.

I thought his earlier stuff (Andromeda Strain, Eaters of the Dead, etc) was much better then his later stuff. Just seemed like in his later stuff he was writing screenplays instead of novels (Disclosure especially). Was still good popcorn fiction though. RIP.

I was unaware he wrote 'Andromeda Strain' until I read the obit. I loved the original movie (as opposed to the abomination they just aired on TV). Right now, I'm reading my copy of 'Jurassic Park', and after that I'll see if I can scrounge up a copy of 'Andromeda Strain' to read, too.

He wrote a number of excellent books. As Geoff said, Crichton wrote good "popcorn fiction". In addition to Andromeda Strain, I'd also recommend Airframe and Sphere. I like most of his books but I think those are two of his better efforts.

Is 'Sphere' the one they made into a movie with Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel S Jackson? It was a pretty decent movie and should make a better book.

Yes, that's the one they based that movie on but the book is much, much better.

As are most books turned into movies. It's hard to condense a 400-500 page novel into a movie without cutting two-thirds of it out. Unless you want the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. :)
