But it was pretty darn cool while it lasted. How do you like these Twins? They sap themselves of so much talent every year, and yet they still find a way to win. Is there an explanation? Magic? I'm stumped.

It was a good streak, but this team is pretty young, and IMO the pitching isnt there so we could easily go on a 10 game slide too. They are scrappy and fun to watch. A pleasant surprise so far IMO, hope they keep it up.

I think Ron Gardenhire and Rick Anderson deserve more credit than they get.
I was at the game on Friday night, and it was wild. It felt almost playoff like. It was great! I remember going to games in the late 90's when I could have a whole section to myself.

That's kind of my point. They don't have the talent to win as many games as they've been winning. Of course, I also agree with the statement that they're bad enough to go on a long losing streak too, but with this team's coaching staff, they always seem to max out on the talen they have. It's quite remarkable that these guys are invisible to baseball fans outside of the Twin Cities. You could say the same thing about Tom Kelly.

The Twins have been very fortunate to have Tom Kelly and Ron Gardenhire (and Rick Anderson).
I would like to see them add a big bat for the rest of the season, even if it's just a rent-a-player. It would be cool to see them try for someone like Griffey Jr, but I nkow that would never happen. But just to see what this team can do for the rest of the season with a power bat in its lineup would be kind of fun.

The biggest bat of all time (save the Babe) is available. Something tells me neither you nor the Twins want him. Me neither. But wouldn't that "rent a bat" (and kill the clubhouse) experiment be fascinating? If nothing else, the cheater knows how to take a base on balls.

Speaking of cheating, anyone seen Bigger, Faster, Stronger? The film maker is no intellectual giant, but it is a pretty intresting film.

Greatest HR hitter ever for DH! *walks around with sign*
They're invisible to every fan outside of the Twin Cities because to every fan outside of the Twin Cities they're little more than a first round playoff warm up! Maybe when we hit 2010 we'll be able to make some noise...unless we trade away Gomez and let all of our pitching walk. With great one year addition of washed up bums year in and year out!

How ya like this guy Slowey?
The Johnsonian
He came to our backyard down here (Winthrop U.) by way of an academic scholarship, believe it or not.
Good find for the Twinkies, but also some excellent player development!

They have some real potential in their rotation. I hear Liriano is doing really good for AAA. I hope he can get his stuff together, even if it is 3/4 of what he was before.
Their offense is doing well too, even without the HRs. I would still like to see a big bat in their lineup.
Just an off-base thought, but Demi mentioned Barry Bonds... wouldn't it be fun if they signed him, just for kicks?

Actually it was Dan, not Demi that mentioned getting Bonds.

I brought it up because I thought it would be extremely intriguing (not to mention out of character) ... and in that sense, "fun" probably works. But I'm not advocating it. The Twins need to rebuild with some high-priced free agents, but not someone whose future as a ballplayer is as bleak as Barry's, IMHO.

I'd say winning 16 out of 18 going into the All Star Game is worthy of saying "Maybe the streak isn't over after all; maybe I was just referring to the wrong streak." These guys are doing it with smoke and mirrors. Pretty darned impressive. It certainly helps that if they have a lead going into the 9th inning, they virtually never lose.

Yeah, after bragging on Smelly, he crashes in the fourth, then gets huge run support and hangs in there for the win.
Good stuff!
You think Smelly hangs out with Booty?
