Holy cow, had no idea he was still alive. But thank you, Albert, for bringing that gift to modern society. I learned a lot from it. RIP.

He accidentally invented a synthesized version of ergot- a mold that grows on rye- Lysergic acid diamethyde. I believe he was looking for an alternative to penicillin. He ate some the first day and went out bike riding... the bike ride didn't turn out so well. :) He made a journal of several of his trips, detailing his hallucination.

He inspired people like Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg, and Jerry Garcia-- and apparently outlived them all by at least a decade, despite being older than all of them. Probably speaks to moderation. ;)

Strangely enough, I decided earlier this week that tonight was my night to get my third eye squeegeed again (my sort of semi-annual mental health maintenance), so I'll pay my respects to Mr. Hoffman, and if I start posting like Krulik late night y'all know what's going on...

Technically pink elephants connote alcoholic delirium, not psychedelic hallucinations. With the latter, you more see inverted, breathing, pulsating mandalas in the sky and such. I don't know if there's a smiley for that, but it would probably consist of giant pupils and a smile from ear to ear. Somewhere between :D abd
