Many of you who remmember the old Hamms beer commercials should recall that Minnesota literally means "Land of Sky Blue Waters" is the native Dakota language.
Minnesota has been settled by many Europeans from Scandinavia and Germany. Eastern Scandinavia includes Finland, and there are many Finno people in Minnesota.
Finland, unlike the most of Scandinavia has an Ugric Language rather than a Germanic language.
In Finnish, the language Tolkein partially based his Elven laguages on, minne sota also has a meaning.
Minne means "where" or "where to", while sota means "war". Minnesota would translate as "where to war", or something close to that.
That is something to think about when watching the Vikings play at home.
