I'm waiting for the negative ones to reach their limit and bail out on the Vikings so we can all have a better experience when we visit this board. Surely as miserable as they are they'll be out of here soon. After all, I was a Colts fan before the Vikings came to Minnesota in 1961. That's how we had to roll before the Vikings existed, cheer for other teams. There's nothing holding anyone back if the current state of the Vikings is causing them mental distress.
The ones with the current 'mental distress' are the ones with their heads in the sand. Some of the most die hard fans (season ticket holders) slam on the Vikings all the time, as well they should with the history of the Vikings. We love the Vikings as much as the people with philosophies like yours.
We are just as good of 'fans'. Maybe you eternal optimists, that ever year think we are going to the SB every single year, are the ones that should 'bail' on this team. Some of us see the problems and tell them for what they are worth. Problems.
OFC its to early to judge this team right now. We are 2-1 now. Be happy about that and dont care if others point out obvious problems.
It's cool. No problem with pointing out problems. Third-down conversion rate is low. Our defense isn't getting the pressure it needs to get with a secondary that has its issues. We're not scoring as much as we all had hoped we would. Specific issues like that seem like perfectly good fodder for conversation, and even the most optimistic of us would be silly to deny to those issues.
But when it turns to "this team looks no different than Zimmer's teams," or "KOC is Brad Childress," that's where my a$$ gets a little twisted.
Look, it's certainly wrong to say that those who slam on the Vikings are bad fans. I would never question anyone's fandom, and I never have (except for trolls from other teams). But it's just as wrong to say that someone like me has my head in the sand, or is some kind of pollyanna. I know full well what the Vikings are right now ... a team that's 2-1 and leading the division, but also a flawed team that's unlikely to truly contend playing the way they are currently.
Thing is, I'd just like to enjoy a victory.
I had so much fun at US Bank Stadium last Sunday. Yeah, it was frustrating at times (OK, a lot of times) but when Osborn caught that TD pass, the place was bonkers. Everybody was high-fiving and jumping up and down and shouting and hugging. All was well with the world. Smiles everywhere. After the game, people were walking down the streets of Minneapolis, whooping and hollering and singing the fight song.
Then I come on here, and you'd have thought we lost by 3 touchdowns.
So yeah, let's talk about the issues. But let's also acknowledge the positives. KOC is a great football mind. He's a natural leader, and has been at every level — college, pro player, pro coach. I believe he's moving things in the right direction. Is that going to be good enough to win the Super Bowl this year? Y'know, we haven't won one in 61 years as a franchise, so the chances seem slim. But I think we all need to give this new regime some time and be as patient as we can be. It's far from perfect right now, but we're 2-1 with two winnable games on the horizon before a tough one at Miami, then the bye. This team hasn't been above .500 since 2019. If we got to the bye at 4-2, wouldn't you take that? I would.
As someone who tends to see the glass half full, I just don't want to be made to feel like an idiot when I point out something positive. Just as I'm sure you'd appreciate it if people didn't question your fandom because you point out problems. I'd just love to have reasonable conversations on here without things getting so vitriolic.
Or maybe it's pollyanna to think that's possible.
