I still believe in Ponder as a starting QB

It's clear Leslie Frazier is Ponder's biggest supporter. Rick Spielman stated QB starter is solely Frazier's decision. Ponder has given the team the best chance to win offensively this year. But he has not won enough games. The team moves on next season, Spielman will make sure of it. Frazier thought the way the team won last year was enough. Not close then, farther now, loss of Harvin was big because Ponder could hit him on the short stuff always as a viable superstar alternative to AD while the traditional and better WRs overall this year get dreadfully low numbers due to Ponder's skill set. I believe Frazier will start Ponder every game this season, if healthy. I believe the team will win 2-3 more games. I believe both Frazier and Ponder will be former Vikings employees next season. It's all been said before, sorry for redundancy.

I mentioned this is the game thread but stuff in there gets buried so I'll reiterate. I liked the up tempo play calling in the first half, it seems like when Ponder has to move quickly it gives him less time to overthink things.

That's a good theory, but I'm not sure it translates over to the millisecond-long decisions required of an NFL-caliber QB to execute a pass play. If Ponder has that much difficulty focusing and tuning out his own thoughts and just playing, then he has no business in this league.

The bottom line is this. We have seen Ponder play poorly for a while now. Enough for the majority of people to make their minds up that he isn't good enough.
He stares down receivers, he has poor arm strength, his accuracy is pretty ropey at times. He doesn't see wide open receivers. That should be enough to say CP isn't the guy.
Dallas wasn't too bad and Thursday he was efficient. But that's all he was.
Now some might argue that with AD, that's all he needs to be, and if you look at last season that was true, we scraped our way to the playoffs. However, the dink and dunk passing had to be coupled with a sub-human effort by AD.

Thursday was a step forward, however those quick throws aren't going to consistently work against a better defence, I mean, These guys were ranked lower than our defence for crying out loud.
The acid test will be if he's back for Seattle, and I hope he is. If he plays well, I may consider him As a plausible option, however if he crashes and burns, I hope that will stop this whole season of experiments and we start again and dip into the draft for someone who can make us a playoff team again.
I hate that AD's golden years are being wasted on the GM's reach in the draft.

One final thing. As far as this season goes, CP is our best option at QB. However, that's like being the smartest girl at a beauty pageant.

That's understating it rather severely. I have to believe that there are very few people left who think he's good enough that the franchise can afford not to quickly seek a replacement.

Lets not forget Dallas and Washington both have atrocious pass defenses. Yardage wise, Dallas gives up the 2nd most in the league at 305.2, and Washington is 6th worst at 274.8. Rating wise Dallas is a little better, 15th worst at 87.4 and Washington 6th worst at 98.8. To put those numbers into perspective, the Vikings pass defense gives up 285.7 and a rating of 98.4. So yeah, they're not good and Ponder was pretty pedestrian.

Now we have to go up against one of the stingiest pass defenses in the league at Seattle, and Ponder will be out. Seattle is 2nd best when it comes to passing yards allowed (179.8 ), and opposing rating (68.6). In both Cassel starts we went up against some stingy pass defenses as well.

As I have said all season long, Ponder will always do JUST ENOUGH to fool our GM/Coach into believing that there is still hope for him as our QB. Sure he will do ok for a few quarters against the worst passing defense in the league. BUT next time he faces any average Defense he will make stupid decisions, throw rainbows to a safety, or fumble in the endzone.......He will NEVER be a good enough QB to get us to the Super Bowl. EVEN with the best RB in the game acting as a big crutch for him. He is a wash out.

63 yards last year against Seattle through the air. I'm fairly certain theres more of the same coming.
