I'd say a lot comes down to the draft. While I don't think RB has recently been a valued position in the draft, this crop of rookies makes a pretty compelling case to buck the trend, and I could see Spielman spending a high pick on one and not regretting it.dead_poet wrote:Another good article detailing Peterson's contract:

It is interesting and probably indicative of some other factors working well for them too. Then I figured , well that includes a good year with Favre at QB and so I looked at just the last 5 years and came up with this.
20+ rushes per game. Average points per game. 25.1 Win percentage. .586
>20 rushes per game. Average points per game. 18.4 Win percentage. .207
Since he only missed 2 games prior to his time period, the stats didn't really change.
It looks like the Vikings score about and extra TD when Peterson is in the game. Would that have made a difference this past year? Well if you want to be a homer and just add a TD for the Vikings to all the games and not modify the other teams, the Vikings would have been 12-4.
Now, I did notice something interesting this past year. Since he only played in the first game the Vikings had to adjust to him not being there. So, did they? Well if you break the season down to the 15 games Peterson did not play in it looks like this.
First 5 games. 14 points per game 1 - 4. .250
Second 5 games. 19.6 points per game 2-3 .400
Third 5 games. 24.6 points per game. 3-2 .600
So what does it all mean? Probably not a whole lot. But it is interesting that when he is in the game, and rushes for 20+ attempts per game the Vikings do pretty well.
