I honestly think this loss is on the coaches, Norv tried to get too cute with the play calling, with AP you use the run to open up the pass, unfortunately the 49ers knew we were going to go play action right off the bat. Zimmer needs to get into these guys ####, and keep it simple until everything is in the swing of things. They didn't game plan well, and the 9ers were beating us on ultra simplistic play calls, I wanted to throw up.

One player who actually had a good game that should be mentioned was Kyle Rudolph. He got open, caught the ball, and made plays. He and Barr were about it though.

Barr did not do his job. big whoop, he made tackles. He left gaping holes by not taking on blockers.

To add insult to injury the Vikings gave up a whopping 230 yds on 39 attempts and a 5.9 avg. I would say that we could use a LB or 3?

Preaching to the choir here. Nobody on this board has complained about the LB position more than I have over the past few years. Brinkley has been a past problem, I would like to keep him there but in lieu of Greenway and Hodges playing so badly, I would not rule it out.

As bad as it looked last night, I don't think it was as bad as you are all making it out to be. San Fran obviously did not take a step back in their defense losing the players they did. They also tossed in some D formations that took the Vikings by surprise. That's being out coached. As for AP. When he only gets 10 carries he is not going to do anything. He needs 20 minimum. As to Bridgewater. He made a few bad throws but in my eyes was not as bad as most of you think. The o-line. They need to step up and protect him better.

If Peterson had been running behind the SF line last night, with the way they were opening holes and pushing Vikes defenders around, he might have gained 200 yards.

In that scenario, SF's D would have to be as bad as our's, in which case I'd completely agree.

Both of our lines are in sorry shape. There's nothing worse than watching your team get absolutely manhandled in the trenches. It was EXACTLY what I feared would happen (and got ripped for it in the prediction thread).

I place most of the blame for last night's lost on the coaching staff. When the 49ers threw their 3 TE formations at the Vikings defense, I did not see any adjustment made by the staff. They seemed to have 1 game plan set and refused to change it. After Sedenjo blocked the FG in the 1st quarter. Turner could have used that to change the whole momentum around, instead of giving the ball to AD, they threw the ball in all the possession. 49ers D did not fall for it what so ever.

What bothered me the most was how indecisive Zimmer was last night. The re-punt, the decision to kick a 63 yard FG or go for the Hail Mary. It really seemed like amateur night last night.

My solace is that this is the 1st game. I still think this team is an above .500 team. I just hope things like what I saw last night never happens again.

i feared it too. Two of their biggest problems last season were blocking on offense and stopping the run on defense and they didn't do much this offseason to address either problem. Presumably, that was the point of a few of their draft picks. Maybe they'll make a difference as the season moves forward.

Losing the battle of the trenches on both sides of the ball is beyond irritating. What's worse, it affects everything the team is trying to do.

Seriously, can the Vikings clean up problems that have been around for a while in just one season? I'm not so sure.

I'm hoping the team can improve enough so that they're at least difficult to beat at home. I'm pretty much used to seeing the Vikings implode during road games.
