Just to throw my 2 cents in, because I usually do. I think its crazy to think that teams would be losing on purpose as well. Jim has it right that the league would come down very hard on any team that did that. However, with 20/20 hind site, it does seem as though fortune would have smiled on us a bit brighter had we lost a couple of those other games and had the opportunity to get Luck. Oh well, we will eventually get into the Superbowl, and hopefully it doesn't take some embarrassing form of cheating to get there.

I agree. It really drives me crazy that the Colts franchise ends up being so good for all of those years because of Manning and then of course they have the 1 down year and manage to have a guy like Andrew Luck fall on their laps. That's very frustrating!!

Yea tell me about it. Same thing with the Packers, its so hard to find a serviceable QB let alone a Franchise QB, and some teams just luck into two HOF'ers in a row!

I’m obviously not a Packers fan … but they didn’t luck into Rodgers. They drafted him in the first round and groomed him for 2-3 seasons before their star QB left town. That’s just thinking ahead and good strategy.

Agreed. And they got him late in the round too, as many teams, vikings included passed on him. However, since we drafted Troy Williamson and Erasmus James ahead of him, that makes it all better

However, that was also right in the middle of the Culpepper era, and most people would not have advised us to draft another young QB with our first round pick when we had "franchise QB" with only 4 years in the league or so on our team at the time. It made sense for GB to take him, as Grandpa Favre was reaching 12-13 years in the league at that point.

Any time you ever get a QB the caliber of Favre, or especially Rodgers, there is an enormous amount of luck involved, there are so many talented first round QBs that completely flamed out and did nothing in the NFL. And also, Rodgers was for the most part the consensus Number 1 pick in the draft that year, the fact that he fell to the 24th pick was nothing short of a minor football miracle.

Especially considering he had been threatening retirement for 3 years already prior to said draft.
