I've had busted ribs. They were exquisitely painful for many weeks. Cassell is really going to have to suck atrociously for Ponder's ribs to heal in 2 weeks.
Yet it happened in the Browns game. And he gave no indication at all he was hurt. Hm. And took two days before he was "told" he was injured. His words. So yeah, nothing going on here at all...

I didn't know my ribs were busted for at least a day. It was 10 years ago so I don't remember how many days but it was at least one until I started to
feel them cracking when I breathed and I made a doctor appt, which was a waste of time because they don't do anything for cracked ribs. They hurt the first day, but nothing like they hurt a week later. So its possible...and I'm not saying it IS...but...
But I was older than he is so he may heal faster but if they are cracked that bad that they are worried about his heart he may be out for a bit.

His ribs aren't busted, they're sore and he didn't realize it for a few days. He finished the Browns game without wincing once. Could you imagine Favre missing a game because of sore ribs? Something would have to be broke to keep a real leader from playing in a big game.

Newspapers say he has a *broken* rib.

If it's cracked or broken it will not heal in 2 weeks. Can you play with it? Probably, but every hit and knock down you will feel. Ribs are like any other bone, it takes weeks to heel. You can continue to re-injure them however, and going back to soon they can be "cracked" or "broken" again in a few weeks. As far as the pain during the game, I can see him putting it out of his mind and it just being the a regular pain from being knocked down. After all, he's been on the ground enough so far this year. So he could have done it early in the game and not have real heavy pain till the next day.

What newspaper is that? I haven't seen an official report about them being broke.
I've broken plenty of bones (never ribs) and I knew it right away each time. The fact that he played that much of the game without it bothering him at all, makes me believe they're not broken, cracked, or even sore. He never even favored his ribs, so unless it happened on the final play of the game when he rolled into a pile drive, I'm sticking to the "this is a chicken s*** benching" conspiracy xD.
edit: And BTW your name is Webbfann not Ponderfann xD.

I have the feeling this has as much do with Ponders play and the fans rage and hatred
of Ponder, as much as his rib injury

I've had several broken bones and knew it immediately each time. I had
bruised my ribs once, and I can tell you it took about 4 weeks to recover. It wasn't a "gradual realization" either. Lastly, I really didn't realize how much interaction your body has with your ribcage just in doing mundane things. I had to walk carefully and gingerly as every time my right heel (the side of my injured ribs) hit the ground too hard it felt like someone was stabbing me. Running (or other 'athletic' activities) was just out of the question.

I am confused how can 2 days ago they talk about Ponder looking like he was going to start and now he has a fractured rib? I broke 3 ribs and a collar bone in a bike accident and I can tell you that you should know right away if you have fractured ribs. Also, if Cass comes in and gets us a win with a good performance I do not see any way Plunder coming back. And for good reason.

Ribs are flexible. They can be broken without it being immediately apparent. As I said earlier, it took at least a day and I think more before I realized mine were broken. They were very sore, but I was able to get up and continue my bike ride and it never occurred to me they were broken. The pain gradually increased, and after a day or more I could hear and feel the fractureed ends snapping past each other when I moved or breathed. Then I screamed every time I stood up for a couple weeks. But it didn't hurt THAT much on the first day, though obviously it did hurt.
But the coaching staff might still be a lying sack of dung.

Yeah, I mean with ribs you can still play be it bruised or fractured. If I were in the organization, there's is no way I'd let a bad quarterback play with damaged ribs because it's almost immediate failure, but they could have given him every opportunity to play through it and see how he felt and looked...I don't know.
It's true about Cassel though. No way Ponder gets back in if Cassel performs. The buzz generated from finally seeing all their toys in motion will be enough to rile up the entire fanbase so it would be the dumbest move ever if they went back to Christian.

My feeling...
Cassel could have a "Good Game." My 5 Point Criteria for that is as follows...
5 Sacks or Fewer
2 Turnovers or less
250 total yards or more, after sack yardage taken into consideration
2 Touchdowns or more
A Win
If Cassel does that, Ponder can't play again this season. The fans would scream bloody murder.

Suppposedly having bruised ribs is often times more painful than a straight up broken rib.
But a broken rib can lead to bad things, like a punctured lung or worse.
Laughing at the conspirital tone of some in this thread.
Personally, I don't think Ponder is a poster boy for 'tough' to begin with...but I don't see how you can send a guy with a busted rib out onto the field anyway.
He's going to need a couple of weeks at least.

Who wants a guy with a broken rib on the field? The guy's a turkey at 100 percent. We might as well just wave a white flag for Steelers in a different country.
The only thing I question is if this injury is legit and isn't a "Minnesota Nice" way to bench Ponder while having a built in excuse to
"give him another year. He's our guy!"
