It's a long season and we may very well be 2-8 soon, at that point we'll see a lot of the rookie / young guys getting a shot at starting.

That's the way some teams would do it when the season is over, but don't expect to see it from the Vikings and the current coaching staff. They'll be running Adrian Peterson 25 times in week 17 after being mathematically eliminated in week 12.

Interesting.
I thought they would promote Steeples to add CB depth.
I take this to mean Smith had some active roster opportunities out there and the Vikes didn't wanna lose him.
Super weird. WR is the last position we need to beef up on the active roster. You must be right about protecting him. Is Felder being on the IR a year-long deal? Anyway we can get him back on the field this season? He showed some promise this pre-season.

Yep. Felder can't be activated. He's done for the year.

Frazier said Greg Childs is making "positive progress." Hopes to get him on the field soon. Decision will have to be made Week 10 or 11.

Couldn't they waive him (injured) with an injury settlement? They'd expose him on the waiver wire, but if he clears then they could resign him, couldn't they? I'm not totally clear about the rules, and, of course, the Vikings may want to protect him rather than take that chance.

On Thursday LB Audie Cole was waived to make room to sign OT Kevin Murphy from the practice squad. Murphy was active for Thursday's game against the Redskins.
Cole cleared waivers on Friday. The Vikings currently have two open slots on the practice squad.

That comment made me laugh and now I feel a little ashamed.

Ashamed because of the coming aviary onslaught down on the plains of Tamaulipas, Mexico? or ashamed because poor Audie is out of a job? I'm guessing it's the former… and I agree. It's one thing to hunt respectfully (i.e. using all parts possible of an animal you have taken from the Earth) and another thing entirely to massively slaughter creatures just because you find it entertaining. That kind of thinking troubles me.

Yes, it was the former.

It troubles me as well.
On the football said of things, I'm guessing their willingness to waive Cole is an indication that they don't exactly see him as a their next great MLB.

Cole was terrible this past pre-season. He was slow and weak--every time he tackled someone he was pushed backwards it seemed. Too bad he couldn't "slaughter" RBs better.

And today, we go back the other way:
OT Kevin Murphy has been waived and LB Audie Cole re-signed.
This probably means that Phil Loadholt is expected to be back for the Seattle game. I genuinely wish they'd keep J'Marcus Webb as the starter.

Webb is not very good. Berger over Johnson though
