I didn't think was worth a new thread but since this thread is basically about the Vikings roster anyway...
A Deeper Look at the Vikings Roster
Now that the Vikings' roster is finalized, we can spend a little more time analyzing it and looking at how the 2013 team was built.
I'm going to borrow from a couple of our former divisional bloggers who are graduating to national status -- Mike Sando and Kevin Seifert -- and with good reason, because both of them offered their usual sharp analysis this morning.
In ranking the ages of all 32 teams, Sando had the Vikings as the 15th youngest, which puts them as the second-youngest team in a NFC North division skewing toward the elderly. The Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears are the oldest and second-oldest teams in the league, respectively, and at a point where both of those clubs seem to be in flux -- the Lions are trying to rebound from a disappointing 2012 season, while the Bears have a new coach (Marc Trestman) and a quarterback in a contract year (Jay Cutler) -- the Vikings would seem to be in good standing. Only the Green Bay Packers, who have made a habit of remaining among the league's most youthful teams, are younger than the Vikings in the NFC. They rank fifth youngest overall.

@TomPelissero: Bobby Felder and D'Aundre Reed, both waived/injured by #Vikings, passed through waivers and are now on injured reserve.

How serious were any of the injuries to Seth Olsen, Bobby Felder, D'Aundre Reed?
Are the Vikings stashing players on IR now? Seems odd. If you actually valued a player, wouldn't you want him the PS, so you have the option of promoting him to the active roster?
It's also crazy that they retain rights to Christian Ballard and that he doesn't count against the 53.

I've been wondering the same thing. They've been pretty hush hush about the whole thing. That's for sure.

they have changed the rules with IR and now players can come on and off the IR at different times in the season.
I am glad they signed Felder he seemed to have some great instincts on defense ..

You are correct;
"The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on terms to allow injured athletes to return. However, when a player suffers an injury, the team is given a variety options. 1st is Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) Rules under the NFL Rules, there are two classifications of Physically Unable to Perform (PUP). There's the Active/PUP and the Reserve/PUP. Both PUP classifications are for football-related injuries.
2nd there's the Reserve/PUP (regular season PUP list). Any player starting on the Active PUP list (and has not practiced) with the team becomes eligible for the Reserve/PUP.
3rd is the Injured Reserve list. The one player selected must be immediately "designated for return" at the time he is placed on the list. That designation must appear on the day's Personnel Notice. That designated player is eligible to return to practice if he has been on the IR list for at least six weeks from the date he was placed on Reserve. He is eligible to return to the active list if he has been on the IR list for at least eight weeks from the date he is placed on Injured Reserve."

Was it Felder who got absolutely torched by D'andre Hopkins in that first preseason game?

Wasn't "torched" at all. He actually had solid coverage. Hopkins just made a better play on the ball (Felder didn't turn around fast enough and/or time his jump well enough). He was in position; Hopkins just won.

I don't know... being there in person and being near the endzone where it happened in...It sure made Felder look silly.

Judge for yourself:

It's good coverage. Felder just misjudged the jump or didn't display enough awareness of the ball. His coverage was fine. It was essentially a jump ball.

Even if he'd timed his jump I think Hopkins would have come down with it due to height advantage. It was good coverage IMO, but Hopkins is just a solid WR. I would have loved him in purple.

They're both 6'1.

Felder is listed as 5-11 on sites I've seen: (
http://www.scout.com/a.z?s=143&p=8&c=1&nid=6310959)
Comparing their verticals is worthwhile too:
341/2" vertical for Felder; 36 for Hopkins.

I don't know if it's already been reported or not, but we got our last PS spot filled. UDFA Tristan Okpalaugo, formerly of Fresno State. Had three sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, per "Phinsider." Krammer of 1500 reported the signing. Appears he was a fan fave with the Dolphins and many were puzzled why he wasn't stashed. Good size at 6'6" and 249lbs.
