Given that, and given Kluwe's prominence as a spokesperson from the world of sports, when he is dismissed from his team with only a modicum of perfunctory verbiage, it creates a disconnect between a portion of the fan base and the team. But I guess part of that comes with the territory when you have outspoken athletes -- in the end, they are bound to offend someone. Fortunately, as everyone knows, when push comes to shove, we don't root for players or GMs -- we root for the laundry.
What makes Kluwe any different from Winfield in this regard? I'm in the former camp (I tolerated rather than celebrated Kluwe's outspokeness) but at the end of the day: I'd rather keep Kluwe if he was the best option. I don't see this any differently than the Winfield move - other than the fact that Winfield wasn't as outspoken as Kluwe about anything so we can't attribute other motives to his release. I would have kept Kluwe for a competetion simply because Rookies are never a 'sure thing' at any position, but the Vikings appeared to be doing the 'classy thing' by giving him another shot with another team earlier, rather than later. I hope they know what they're doing and that our new punter is the Blair Walsh Project II.
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!

If it gives any perspective, and without getting into detail, I'm married to a person who says that she sees two sides of every public policy issue except for one, and that is the issue about which Kluwe was so outspoken (other than the Ray Guy issue -- my wife has probably never heard of Ray Guy). A lot of people I know feel very strongly about the "other" issue and most are on Kluwe's side.
Minnesota has it all figured out now, and now Kluwe moves on to Cali to spread "his message" out there. Good luck to him and all of his awesomeness!
"You say he came out for gay marriage?" Peterson said. "To each his own. I’m not with it. But I have relatives that are gay. I’m not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love 'em. But again, I’m not with that. That’s not something I believe in. But to each his own.
"I'm sure the Vikings organization did not release him based on that. They know Kluwe. They've been knowing him for a long time. They know he's outspoken. It hurt me to see him leave. He was a good friend of mine and a really cool guy, man. Probably one of the smartest guys I've ever been around, man. ... Different."
I will take AD's word on it
Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!
Best to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool rather than open it and remove all doubt.
