Skol Vikings! Might finally be doing the job right.
Show me a Super Bowl team without any solid veteran leaders in their 30s.

Well once again we are in a wait and see mode. So far We have some serious cuts but nothing to show for it except draft choices. That's nothing to sneeze at, but we don't know what's going to happen with those picks. I really believe that Spielman is trying to build a contender. Whether or not he will succeed remains to be seen. I'm not going to get all worked up until I see what he does with the money he's saving and the draft picks he's obtained.

You must be in heaven going to high school games. You think all it takes is youth? Hows Ponder working out? All your faith in Spielman, and he's Ponder's daddy. Hes also building this new teams and I see most of the quality guys being shown the door, and no quality, ONCE AGAIN, coming in at WR. Or QB. Keep those pipe dreams going.

Ok that clears things up. I also loved Winfield in his prime but although hes is/was a sure tackler his cover skills, which were never that good had diminished even further relagating him to becoming a nickle or slot coverage back. I think that the team realizes his value but since he would not reportedly budge from restructuring his 7 million dollar contract and them having Josh Robinson waiting in the wings, they pulled the trigger. I do not think that Robinson will disapoint any one with his agressive style and blazing speed.
Personally, I think you need three high quality corners, and maybe four. Two are obviously needed to cover the top two receivers. The third -- the nickel -- is needed to cover the third WR who comes in on many passing downs. And the fourth is needed when one of the first three goes down to injury, which by late in the season is extremely common. I hate giving up any quality guy at that position.

Anyway, it's wait and see time for us Vikings fans. As others have pointed out, the clock is ticking.

People absolutely underrate just how good Antoine is. Pound for pound, the best tackling corner in the league. Such an incredible guy to have in any cover-2 scheme.

The opportunity cost is not in Minnesota's favor by keeping him at that price. Nobody is underrating a damn thing, but from a pure business standpoint and for the betterment of the direction of this team...This is a great move.

Darrelle Revis - DB - Jets

ESPN New York confirms the Jets have engaged in Darrelle Revis trade talks with the Bucs and one other team, but no move "appears imminent."

The Jets still haven't granted Revis' representation permission to talk with other teams, and have made no extension offer of their own. It's never been more clear that Revis is on his way out of New York, but reports that a trade to Tampa could go down at any moment were premature. The slow developing nature of the free-agent cornerback market should work in the Jets' favor.

What does Ponder have to do with releasing an overpaid old corner who was already moving to a quasi-coach role and playing the slot? Quality guys? You mean old players who are overpaid and jerkoff receiver who don't even want to be on the team? What pipe dream? Not having to worry about having overpaid underperforming veterans repeatedly that start going downhill at different times leaving us desperately trying to fill a few positions every year on a veteran roster riding the record roller coaster?
Show me any NFL team period that doesn't have solid veteran leaders in their 30s.

As far as the age of the team. Looking at what I had back in September, taking out, Jenkins, Winfield and Harvin, the average age of a Vikings player is now 24.9 years old. That would make them one of the youngest, if not the youngest team in the league My number may be off a little, but not much. Will depend on who resigns and who signs the next few days.

Just throwing this out there...but what if, what if the Vikings traded their first and maybe their 3rd this year to move up and nab the top CB DEE MILLINER from alabama? I would be down with that move. Draft a wide reciever with our other first and go linebacker with our 2nd and fourth.

we'd have to trade up with the Chiefs to ensure that we get him, because I could very easily see him going #2 overall to the Jaguars. Not worth the price we'd have to give up.

Draft day trades do happen....the jaguars could pass and then the vikings could make a trade with....lets say the eagles at 4. The eagles are in more of a rebuild then the vikings and I could see it happening....Not likely, but not impossible. One can only dream..

With Winfield's release the Vikings are definitely going to need to add some players to the secondary. Right now the top 3 corners are Cook (who doesn't seem to be able to finish an entire season), Josh Robinson (who got benched last season) and A.J. Jefferson (who is probably a 4th CB at best).

With or without Winfield, the Vikings needed cornerbacks. With Cook you cross your fingers that he can stay healthy and play 10 or 12 games in a season and Josh Robinson is still only a hopeful.
