32 yrs ago the NFL was way different than today, players are bigger and faster now.

I still don't understand why we call a pass play that takes 3 seconds to develop in that situation unless we are going for the TD. Need a few more yards? Do quick outs. Way easier for Teddy to know to throw the ball away with quick outs.

Great defenses win Championships, and when Minnesota gets some of it's starters back they may take it all. I do believe the Vikings are the best team in their division, they just have to tighten it up for the post season. Who would have expected them to hang with the Arizona Cardinals like this? Great game to watch.
You guys are better than my Broncos, the Vikings team played with grit all night.

And also that Marino is an unfair comparison/standard.

Maybe Zimmer is not really very confident in Walsh, it is not outrageous to think that he could miss at that distance is it. Sheeesh he struggles making extra points at times

There weren't any quick outs in the play. Teddy said all the WRs started on the left of the line and they all went to the right hash. That takes a decent time to develop and he wouldn't be able to hit them early because they'd be tackled in bounds. The only outlet was AD out of the backfield but that was also covered upon further review and may have lost yards.

Actually, the passing game was much MORE difficult back then. Few pass interference calls, and QB's could be hit without penalty for the most part. Actually, throwing for a high passer rating 30 years ago was much more difficult. Ask anyone if this right, they will tell you it is. The NFL has seen passing numbers the last 5 years that were never seen before because of new rules that stifle the passing defense.
Still, a good game though.

Not sure what that has to do with being able to throw a sideline route. It should have been a quick out, if the receivers were covered he should have immediately thrown it away. Instead he pumped 2 or 3 times waiting for someone to come open. Can't do that in that situation, being only 23 years old is not an excuse - he's in his 2nd year now.

The point is a that a 23 year old is perfectly capable of handling these basic football concepts. After all, he's already learned an entire NFL playbook!

TB played a very good game. Too bad the haters can't give him one ounce of credit

Those two costly fumbles and the interception called back by an off sides call were devastating.
Many Kudos to the coach and the effort put forth in this game. This team did little to resemble the team that got crushed the week before. I hated the loss but loved the effort

Hey man I'm a guy thats been on him and I loved how he played tonight. He has to be aware to probably throw it in the dirt there or Norv should've simply not called that play but either way I was impressed tonight with what I saw from a depleted team.
Anthony Harris needs to start opposite of Smith and Waynes needs to start getting more playing time. Ellis was a good midseason signing as well.
I loved what I saw out of these young guys. Waynes and Harris both making their first starts against one of the best offenses in the NFL and they held their own. It just came down to us being a little more inexperienced in the secondary and even other areas
This team is a contender next season no doubt. I have heard it multiple times on the radio, TV, etc. We are just a young up and coming team that just isn't quite there yet. For god sakes we played a 37 year old CB and a practice squad player at safety and both of them held there own. We were on the road against one of the best teams in the NFL.
The talent on this roster, especially defense, is legit. Offense needs some retooling but I loved how they played tonight

Go ahead and discount the fact that the Cardinals have one of the, if not the best DBs in the game . Crap what a bunch of second guessing armchair quarterbacks.

Those game winning kicks are so much different; and at 48 yards that kick would not have been a "guaranteed success." If Zimmer would have went for the kick and they missed it, many would have asked why he did not try to get a little closer with the time they had left. Tough to be a coach nowadays, but Zimmer has done a great job with this team and the injuries. Nobody probably expected the Vikings to be this good this year, credit the entire team and the coach.

I didn't say he is 23 to insinuate he can't throw an out route. I mentioned that because Zimmer basically asked him to wait long enough for the WRs to run routes across the field and determine when he needs to throw in order for them to not get tackled in bounds. That takes some experience. Unfortunately by the time the play developed and the WRs weren't gonna make it, it was too late for Teddy to throw it away.
If throwing the ball away was a priority for Zimmer and Turner, call a different play that doesn't take as long to develop, especially when you have a shaky line.
