No way Wirfs falls that far. He is the most athletic OL in the draft, and he was dominant n college. Top 10 if not top 5 pick. Josh Jones from Houston should be available at 22.
I would take BPA, but hopefully that falls in OL CB or DL.
Based on draft position, CB Fulton could be realistic and great pick. Would like WR in 2nd rd. So much talent. This is where I start moving up and around. Leviske Shenault,Tee Higgins, Tyler Johnson, KJ Hamler, Denzel Mims, Branden Aiyuk, Michael Pittman, Chase Claypool..... Plenty of talent ! Get at least 2 of these guys.
Seriously? While I'll admit to having just started my reading up on this draft class, I DID read about 5 or 6 prognostications. No one had him in their top 10 much less top 5.
If that's the case, I'd rather sit tight or even trade down from 25 and get more picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. We seem to be creating more holes every day with FA departures, so we need all the picks we can get to fill in the Swiss cheese of our roster. I'm not very optimistic about this upcoming season, which is why I decided to drop NFL Sunday Ticket.

Sorry Stump, but if I have been warned about stating that you are looking for the negative everywhere you possibly can. Not only do you look for all the negative and go into deep dives to find the negatives you also ignore anything positive. If I deserve a warning for that I will choose to ignore you so I won't post like that.
Really, what is the point of this? I know some people on this board love Cousins and think he's great. That's genuinely fine with me. There are others, like myself, who tend to see his negatives as significant. That's also genuinely fine. He does have negatives, and they are broadly recognized. If we can't acknowledge that he has both strengths and weaknesses, I'm not even interested in engaging. That's just the cut off for me, and I'll go talk to someone else. Waging some personal struggle against either group is just silly. Going on, and on, and ON about stats one way or another is silly. What are you aiming to accomplish?
The greatest players in the history of the game have both strengths and weaknesses. I get bothered by those who exclusively look for the weaknesses. Some posters regarding Cousins in particular seem to ignore all of his strengths which IMO far outweigh his weaknesses. If I'm not going to be allowed to point out that the person is being negative then I will simply choose to ignore that person and let their attacks on Cousins or others go unchallenged. This will greatly decrease the dialog on this message board, but so be it.

After a frustrating end to our season, I took a step away from Vikings football and this board. Since FA and draft season are here/ on the horizon, I've decided to reengage. Plus, we are all in need of some distractions and entertainment these days.
With 5 of the top 105 picks, the Vikings are set up to add some fresh young talent. I suspect that they will move up to take OT Tristan Wirfs from Iowa. They have the fire power to do it. The question is will they find a trade partner and how low can they reasonably target him? I'd say around 14-15 would be likely.
At WR, we need to add a couple of guys IMO and the position is fortunately deep this year. I like guys who know how to run routes and who haven't simply excelled at the college level due to speed or physical talent. Those players are usually busts in the NFL, when they are suddenly surrounded by guys just as talented as they are and they lack the ability to use technique to win. So even though I have watched TCU's Jalen Reagor for a few years and think he's a heck of WR, I think he's very behind the curve on football intelligence and route running. He's a freakish athlete though. I'd rather add two WRs in the 2nd to 5th rounds. Hometown hero Tyler Johnson would be a great pick in the 2nd and maybe take a flyer on Peoples-Jones from Michigan, a highly rated HS player who just never found his groove in college. As a UT Longhorn alum, I also watched Duvernay a bit this year, and I think he'd be an intriguing prospect in the 6th or 7th. The guy is built like a RB and apparently isn't good at running routes, but his speed and power are undeniable.
We also need to address CB in the first few rounds, but I haven't scouted the position yet.
Most of the "experts" see Tyler Johnson as a 3rd round pick at best. I don't think we want to use our 2nd on him.
I've seen him projected at #58, which happens to be our 2nd round pick (the site was just listing prospects by talent, not considering team needs or even who actually owns each pick). But you're right, I've seen other 'experts' project him as a 3rd round talent. All I know is that I really like the kid and it would be sweet to see another hometown player excel at WR. There's a major cultural benefit to a team when you get a homegrown talent, especially in a state that doesn't produce enormous numbers of NFL talent. (Here in TX, the impact would be less since so many NFL players are from here).

I was OK with the expected departures in my mind. Losing Mac to me was totally unexpected and makes me much less optimistic about this season.

Stumphunter is right: he's entitled to his views, positive or negative.
Everybody needs to remember one of the most fundamental principles of this board: Disagree and respond to the post, do not attack the poster.
In practice that means focusing comments on football and not on each other.
I never said one thing about Stump not being entitled to his views. I want to clarify something. Is declaring that somebody is being negative regarded as a personal attack.
Yes, apparently.

Seems like 50% of the NFL is from Texas and Florida.

Not necessarily but that's focusing on terminology when it's the spirit of the rule that's most important. The primary point of the rule is for people to disagree and respond to the
substance of a post rather than focusing on the
person who made it. As I said, comments should be about football, not each other.
Think of it this way: the purpose of this board is for people to enjoy talking about the Vikings, not bicker about each other. There's no need to call someone a "hater" or point out that they're being negative. If the latter is true, it will be self-evident. If, as you said in a post upthread, you think "Some posters regarding Cousins in particular seem to ignore all of his strengths which IMO far outweigh his weaknesses" there's no need to point out that the person is negative in order to make your point. You can just as easily say "Cousins has strengths that outweigh his weaknesses" or something similar. We can all make our comments about the team and the game without making it about the person to whom we're responding.
I hope that provides some clarity (for anyone reading, not just you).

As I just said in response to VikingsVictorious, it's the spirit of the rule that matters. This isn't a courtroom and we don't need a legal definition of "attack" that people can try to tiptoe around to stay within the proverbial letter of the law. It's simple: be respectful of one another. Make an effort to phrase comments so they're about football, not fellow members. It's not difficult.

Anyway...
Sammy Watkins is a guy who might be available via trade. He is in the last year of his deal and would probably restructure for much less than he is owed this year if given an extension.
Not anything special, but a big upgrade over what we currently have at the #2 WR spot.

I would certainly like to have him with the Vikings, although I'm sure there is some local bias built into that. Who doesn't love cheering for the local guys though? Thielen is a great story, and Johnson has some success like that here, it would also be a great story. it certainly would be good for jersey sales in his rookie year

I feel like Johnson is a can't miss guy, similar to how I felt about Decker coming out of college. If we can get him late in the 2nd that is a steal, imo.

Calling someone negative isn't a personal attack, it is an observation of the generality of their arguments. But you're the mod, whatever.

What did I JUST say?
Making an "observation of the generality of their arguments" is still focusing on the person, not football.
