I agree about having a good "core", but I want a true "Number One" that can consistently , get open, make big plays and defenses have to adjust to play. Both will help Teddy.

Agreed, and I think a guy like that is all they lack at the position.

It is all they lack at the position, well, except for consistency from the rest of the WRs. One guy won't carry the entire passing game.
Not that I don't want a stud WR, because I do. But as Vikings fans, we've learned the need for depth at all the positions on the team.

I think all we need is a true #1 WR as well. But I think theres about a .01% that he is Carter. People are getting a bit too hyped on the fact that he is Carter's son and forgot the fact hes only been in the CFL, which doesn't produce #1 WRs. Or even #2 Wrs. But if we were able to pick up a Cooper (or Parker) or someone equally gifted as Fitz (if not Fitz himself), our whole offense would look so much better. That's why WR is the #1 priority in my mind, even if AD does come back.

I think Jennings and Wright are proving to be consistent now that there is someone meeting them in the consistency dept. at QB.
If they somehow get a legit #1....we'd be looking at some combo of Johnson/Wright CP Thielen as the 4 5 and 6 guys. Assuming they'd have 6. That would strike me as decent depth.
If someone, like Carter for example, was signed and tore it up in camp, I wonder who would win out at #3 between Wright and Johnson. I guess CP is in the convo too....although I've mentally written him off, short term, in some ways.

Free agent WR Duron Carter said the Vikings are his "top choice."
Carter worked out for the Vikings' front office and coaching staff on Friday. He's also visited with Colts and Chiefs, and has drawn interest from the 49ers. Carter can't sign with a team until next month, but the Vikings should be considered the favorites to land him. He's reportedly seeking a signing bonus in the range of $100,000 on a three-year deal.

Personally, I don't care who's son he is. I've watched some highlights of this kid and he can flat out play. To say the CFL never produces WRs means nothing to me. This kid isn't a WR that went undrafted due to lack of talent and thats why he's in the CFL. It was due to character concerns. He has just about everything you would want in a traditional #1 WR. Unbelievable hands, speed, size, a good route runner, etc. There isn't much the kid doesnt have. Granted, highlights make everyone look good, but his are very impressive. There have been multiple people that have spoken up and said this kid can be a legitimate WR.

He reminds me a lot of Randy Moss in many different ways. He's a traditional deep ball WR that catches just about anything thrown his way. Very shifty and fast, long frame. In all honesty, if we sign him, I wouldnt mind waiting until rounds 2-4 to draft another WR. However, I wouldnt be upset if we took Cooper or Parker in the 1st either. Although, if we sign him and we are patient with WR in the draft, this will allow us to focus on other needs such as RB, CB, OL, LB, etc. early
If anyone watches the highlights above and says he has no shot, I would say you're out of your mind. I feel that his experience in the CFL has done nothing but help him mature and learn. I highly doubt guys like Calvin Johnson and Chad Johnson would just come out and say how good he is for no apparent reason. This kid went to a legitimate college in Ohio St. and has all the tools you could ask for. If he has his head on straight, he has all the potential in the world.

Wow...I'm pleasantly surprised that he wants to be in Minny.

I like how he goes for the ball when covered. He also looks a bit faster than I was thinking. That CFL endzone still trips me out whenever I see highlights from there. I hope he can sign a decent deal with the Vikings. I'd be happy to get another Carter jersey

I do too... at the very least he's a player worthy of a close look. He's clearly skilled and talented. I'd love to see him not only sign with the Vikes but be successful with them.
Hmmmm... does Anthony Carter have a talented son that plays WR too?

I don't think he's worth chasing, but if he wants to be here I don't see a downside to giving him a reasonable contract.

A $100k signing bonus may not be unrealistic, considering that he has quite a few teams interested in him. In NFL terms, that's a small bonus.
No team is going to immediately consider him a #1 WR in the Brandon Marshall/Calvin Johnson sense and personally, I think the Vikes need more than that in their WR corps anyway. Wright is a good situational WR but I'm not convinced they even have 2 receivers they should feel truly satisfied with as starters. I see Jennings as one starter and then I see a spot for someone to seize for themselves. There's room for an upgrade and room for competition. It's a great situation for a guy like Carter if he really wants to prove himself and earn playing time. Of course, the same could be said for the other WRs on the Vikes roster... someone needs to step up and meanwhile, the team should be looking to upgrade and create competition.

I think the biggest upside in having Duron in Purple is that even if he's not a "number one" type guy, it allows us to have big receivers (Johnson and Carter) on the outside and allows Wright and Jennings to play the slot where they are more dynamic. It doesn't matter who the number one player is, there will be matchup problems if you put players in positions to maximize their talents.
This isn't even mentioning the ramifications of allowing Patterson to be what he truly does best: line up anywhere and draw attention.
Add in Rudolph and Peterson and the Playbook continues to grow. Let alone backups who offer valuable assets like McKinnon, Asiata, and Ellison. Depth becomes a bit of a luxury among the skill positions.
